Over 100 Portland employees are about to lose their jobs
(*While this may not be true in 100% of the cases, I have neve known a court to overturn a well-documented firing.)

Seems they're starting documentation by requiring everyone to submit their vacation status. Although if they dump a good chunk of their workforce, I don't see how they'll stay in business.

There's a labor shortage though. It took at least 4 weeks to fill just one opening we had.

I don't know how it is in the US, but here in Canada, people aren't being "fired" for refusing to get a vaccine for jobs that require it; they're being put on "unpaid leave". In terms of having an income, that really is just semantics, but the implication is that people can return to their jobs if and when they get jabbed, and are only out of work for as long as they refuse to.
Moreover, the mandate isn't required for all jobs, just certain ones. If these people want to temporarily (or permanently) take another job instead, that's something they can do. In many cases they would be trading a higher paying job for a lower paying one, but that's their choice.
Anyways, I think of the vaccine mandate as being akin to any other of requirements for a job. If an employer says their employees need to wear protective equipment and someone leaves their job because they don't want to, that's a choice they're making. If an employer says their employees need to take a particular course and someone leaves their job because they don't want to, that's a choice they're making. If anything we as a society are being too soft on people who willingly leave their jobs because they don't want a vaccine. ![]()
