Ahem... I am in Poland. In constant contact with my Polish countrymen. I precisely know what my countrymen find in good or bad taste.
Comparing Putin to Hitler is very mainstream here - especially to the time when in 1938 and 1939 Hitler was claiming and annexing more and more and the West did nothing more than "officially not recognizing" it.

It's been more or less mainstream here since Georgia in 2008, btw, but the direct invasion now chased every doubt away.

If you mean his intention to expand Russia's borders? I suppose in that context he is "Hitler like". I thought he desires "pan-slavic" unity which case he should be seeking to be friends with Poland and Czechoslovakia.

"Friends" is an abuse on semantics in this context, unless you consider a rapist and his victim "lovers".

A couple of differences between Hitler and Putin. Hitler was in his 40s when he began his invasions, and he accomplished most of his conquests within a couple of years. Whereas Putin is nearly 70 and has moved extremely slower from Georgia in 2008, to Crimea in 2014 and now Ukraine in 2022. I'd say Putin is more of a "poor man's" Hitler.

Also, they wear different hairstyles. And have different native languages. And I'm sure Putin does not intend to massacre Jews. And Hitler was never in KGB :P

No one is claiming they are the same. The world is not the same. But the tactics of annexations followed by a bitzkrieg has been used previously in this part of the world.

I wouldn't know, I came to an amazing conclusion I have never had a friend. I have had hundreds of acquaintances. Perhaps Putin would like to get acquainted with Poland?

Poor sleep last night. Not moderating today. It's good to have geographically diverse moderators.

That is the way I think, also.

I don't get depressed these days.

I often think about what my parents experienced during WWII.
What a shocking thing to experience.
I seem to live in the past before my time, much of the time.

That war is still in us, the children and grandchildren of its survivors.

The Ukrainians are offering an heroic resistance.

I believe, should Putin deign to march beyond Ukraine, that he will lose, and be forced to withdraw. I would bet that some of his soldiers are not really into what Putin is doing.
