This search has cost taxpayers over £12.5 million to date, and there's pressure on the family to have it resolved.

If the parents were to deny a DNA test on someone who has drawn this much attention, people could also say it's proof they know their daughter is dead. That leads back to speculation that they could somehow be involved.

Allowing someone to be tested could potentially find Maddie (first and foremost), but it also shows the McCanns are doing everything they can to bring this expensive search to a close.

Story just keeps getting weirder

Now Julia Wendell is taking her (supposed?) biological parents in Poland to court over their refusal to take a DNA test

I don't read any of the British newspapers but do make a point of looking at the front pages first thing when I go online in the morning. This story is strangely absent. Usually, anything to do with Maddy is headline worthy.

I hope it is her. I have a daughter not much younger.

I'd be pretty flipped out if my daughter claimed to be someone else. Jeesh, I gave birth to her, I know she's my child. Nor do I have any desire to be in anyone's DNA database.

For everyone who might sincerely be a missing person, there are a thousand claimants that are either attention seekers or plain mentally ill. That's the reality.

But I don't get if there's thousands of attention seekers why she's the only one to make this claim in the time since Maddie disappeared ?

Claims mad without evidence can be dismissed without evidence.

Sucks if she really is the McCann girl.

Looks like the Polish authorities are siding with the parents. Julia is an adult so not sure how they can prevent her from taking a DNA test?

We don't know how many people have made the claim. We only know that this particular claim has managed to go viral. It may not mean an ounce more than that she is more talented at promoting herself than any others have been.

She taking a test by herself doesnt do anything. Either her own parents, or Maddie's parents, or both sets of parents, also have to take a DNA test. Did Maddie's parents already go public with their DNA?

Apparently, Julia Wendel also goes by the more Slavic sounding "Julia Faustyna".

But her parents name is "Wendel"?
