How many Muslims are there here anyway? I know, via polls on PPR, the number of Christians is extremely low (like around 5% to 10%), but the Muslim population here I haven't really noticed except for here and there occasionally.
The American Fatwa does sound only like a verbal denunciation though.
Oh come on. You want one then you want 2 Muslim leaders condeming these attacks? Do you hear the Irish saying "sorry we blew up London?" because of the IRA campaigns? Search the BBC archieves and the universities where Muslim leaders tend to talk to people, even dare I say a mosque who condemn these violent acts, I mean I can't believe that you've never heard of Muslims apologising for these attacks. I mean do you watch too much of that CNN and Fox news? In the UK for example we hear loads of Muslims apologising for stuff and may I add that our news corporations are more balanced that's why we over hear hear lots of differing opinions.
Do some research Ragtime and open your mind.

Look up the stuff on Wikipedia and US reaction to Islam in general.
As for you're question, Stimshiene, personally I don't mind Muslims in general. There are several at the school I attend, and i'm pretty much neutral towards all of them. They are not my friends, but I don't hate them blindly like some do. Unfortunately, Americans have a tendency to blame the actions of a few individuals of a group on the entire group themselves. Just look at World War II. There were many Japanese Americans who fought for America, against their own bretheren no less. Some would sneak up to Japanese army officers in the Pacific and translate their orders to relay back to American military HQ. And yet we still locked them up in interment camps when unconfirmed reports of espionage came through, just because they were who they were. It was no better than the Nazi's, and we did it anyways. These same types of people who advocated for this are now advocating to keep tabs on all of Islamic America. Why? Typical American mentality: "The 9/11 terrorists were Islamic, that must mean all of Islam is simply an evil culture, and all Muslims are terrorists" Now you see why Muslims in today's America get the short end of the stick? I flatly disagree with this mentality, even though I am Caucasian Amercian myself (of course, I'm not like most Caucasian Americans. I have a larger brain, for instance.) Hopefully this will clarify things a bit.

Thanks for your input! But I would next time ignore any trolls who appear here to flame me. Obviously their brains aren't as big as ours...

"Muslim" is the new "Communist" The Neocons didn't like the fact that the cold war ended so they had to create a new boogyman. The BBC has a documentary on the parallel rise of Islamism and Neoconservatism that talks about this.
I'm not a huge fan of Islam, but then again, I'm not a huge fan of organized religion in general. Perhaps it's just a perception of mine, but it seems to me that Islam is practiced primarily in third world countries, which keeps it from modernizing the way Judeo-Christianity has. I think this is what in part gives it such a bad name, because many of it more unpleasant aspects (harsh Sharia law, misogyny, intolerance) have lingered in ways that they could not in more developed countries. I see horror stories about FGM, honor killings, indoctrination of children, etc, and what sort of conclusions am I supposed to draw? Many other religions have done just as bad, if not worse things, but have mostly moved on. I feel that if the leaders of Islam want to have a place on the world stage, they need to get with the times.
On a personal note, I worked with a mostly North African and Middle Eastern crew for nearly 3 years. My experience with them has not improved my opinions of Muslims, nor Arabs in general. Almost to a man, they cheated on their wives, cheated other people in business, treated their employees (me) like subjects, and generally acted like they were more human than human. They also kept up a constant stream of invective about what a sh***y country this (the USA) is, while seeking permanent citizenship. It was very difficult not to become bigoted in such a situation, and I'm not sure I emerged completely unscathed.
Nothing wrong with Muslims as long as you understand that the majority follow tradition and culture instead of following their religion. Not really different from Christians.
About being unpatriotic? Don't get your opinions from rednecks.

Sarcastic post is sarcastic.
the majority of people that follow islam are perfectly decent people. there are the extreme few that do horrible things like the terrorist attacks, suicide bombings, torture people for not believing what they believe, not to mention the stuff that happens to women at the hands to these people.
one couldn't help but think all bad of a religion when all you hear about it is from the negative a$&holes that do horrible things and f*&k things up for all the decent people.
they act like they help their fellow muslims but all they are doing is making things worse.
the element that is causing all the problems is extremeism..

Dude what country did you got to? I've never heard of that happening in places like Dubai, Yemen or even Saudi Arabia. The only place that I have is in Lebanon, around that region. And the fact that you think all Muslims are like that just tells me that you were in a place where Islam wasn't thoroughly researched. You shoulnd't have paid attention to those jerks. Don't get confused with the culture is what I always say.

He does have a right to freedom of speech. It's a free world. Btw, although I'm a Muslim now, I used to be an atheist.
So, in your opinion, the KSA, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Bosnia, etc are third world countries? Contrary to your belief, Sharia is mainly imposed in the well developed middle eastern countries, the majority are secular democracies. Honor killings and such, which you talk about, are purely cultural aspects that are abhored in Islam. Baba Ali explains this phenomenon. What do you mean by "Leaders of Islam"? There's no priesthood in Islam. Imams are selected by local communities based on their knowledge on Islam, and likewise, they can be deselected.
So, these actions of a few represent a community of 1.4 billion people? Do you mean to say that no American cheats on his wife? Do you mean to say that there aren't scums in your society? Do you mean to say that nobody complains about any matter over there? Open your eyes, people are the same all over the world. You have good people, and you have bad people. You have honest people, and you have cheats. There's nothing different in any corner of the globe.

Yeah, I've never heard the Pope apologising for the IRA blowing up pensioners and attempting to blow up children. For that matter, I've never heard the Irish Americans, who footed the bill along with Libya, apologise either.

I'm male by the way (yes, I know my avatar is misleading).
Islam has a very flat local organization.
Imman, learned, is the only position, who serves at the will of the Mosque.
Speaking for all Islam is the quick way to become ex-Imman.
Those who form organizations are self elected, and speak for themselves.
There are crazy people and criminals in the Islamic world, speeders and jaywalkers.
They have governments, most who were put in power by the Turks, then supported by the British.
The people have little to do with their imposed form of rule.
Islamic people disagree with each other, often at four way stop signs.
Many people did come here seeking a better life, and found PEOPLE!
America is a dream to many, and the reality a disappointment.
As my Latin American friends said, We love America, we love the people, now why dont you shut off the TV, get your ass off the couch, and do something about the world's problems? Only America could deal with the problems, and they do nothing till it turns into a war, then they show up, and have no idea why the war started. They shoot the enemy, and we all look like the enemy. When the rebels do not wear uniforms, they shoot everyone not wearing a uniform.
My Iranian friend said, we are Islamic because we are too poor to be Communists.
Islam is a very good system for those who are very poor, very uneducated, and a lot better than what they did before.
Christians are expected to support a Priest, the Imman had best have a job, he is an example of a working member of the community. He is just supposed to be the most educated, not to live off of the congration. Professional Iman does not exist, no school, degree, pay package with benefits, just a local example of a good man. He is to avoid contraversy. Politics are out.
The Islamic world is slightly more Islamic than the Christian world is Christian. That is because it is a social system, an active life. Still, you will not find everyone at the Mosque, perhaps as many as attend church, less than half. Ramadan is popular, less work, more pay, and feasting all night. They fast during the day, but are gluttens at night. As religion it rates with getting drunk on Christmas.
I think about 5% of Islamic people are really good, the rest are like the 95% everywhere else.
I'm sure all of those countries have developed areas, but go outside the cities, and you're in the third world. Even if they were "modern", what would that tell me about their culture that they still impose Sharia? How is a country ruled by Islamic law considered a secular democracy? If these "modern" countries abhorred honor killings and FGM, why do they not prosecute them? To clarify, perhaps what I should have said was "Leaders of Islamic countries", though some of the higher ranking Ayatollahs and such could be considered "leaders" I really don't care that some of the things they do are "traditional" or "part of the culture" traditions and cultures can and do change, and in this case, need to.
Ughh, you are distorting what I said. I never said, nor implied, that Americans are perfect people, nor did I say that all Muslims were bad people. I simply stated that MY experience with Muslims was not good. If your only exposure to a culture was a bunch of lying, cheating scum, what conclusions would you draw? I just found it odd, that every single Arab that was hired by my former employer was either a lier, a cheat, or so arrogant you couldn't stand them. Perhaps this phenomenon is unique to Arabs in Seattle, I don't know, I don't have a larger sample to work with. What ever the case may be, my experience has left me with a bad taste in my mouth about the area in general. Perhaps I'll meet some people later in life who will change that, but for the moment, I can at least understand why people would be biased against them.
