It is ironic. She became somewhat famous for carrying a gun to a child's soccer game, and ultimately she was murdered with a gun; perhaps not the same one (or perhaps so), but nonetheless. It's quite possible that that particular gun was the cause in the end - the articles I've read noted that she wanted to remove her husband from the lawsuit, which would mean he would get no part of the $1 million she wanted.
That's not to say that all gun owners will end up shot. It's not saying anything about all gun owners at all. It's just ironic in this case.
