It's just a concession of defeat that avoids losing face.

If you say so. I see it as ADHD and Facebook is calling my name. But, if it makes you feel better, go with it.

I'm tired of well spoken useless idiots (to the vast majority of everyday, hardworking Americans). They get up, speak liquid gold and only benefit the rejects. Maybe some people here consider themselves rejects, I personally don't feel that way about myself.

And this is why you oppose universal health care, is it not? Because it would help the “rejects” as well as the “everyday, hardworking” people. And this is probably why you support work requirements and employer provided health care, it allows for a nice clean division of society into the worthy and the undeserving.

I oppose universal healthcare because you are asking for someone else to be responsible for what you, yourself cannot afford. We are owed nothing... Nobody is responsible for my well being but me.

Universal healthcare costs everyone less money and provides a better level of care. I know because I’m Canadian.

You’d rather pay more money to deny some of the poorest people in your country adequate healthcare than less money to provide decent healthcare for all?

Dude, do what you like. I'm just saying I'm not letting go of my Blue Cross/Blue Shield. That's it.

I dunno.. that’s kind of what both sides are saying, and if that means neither side is going to back down, this could lead to a wild ride and the USA literally tearing itself apart.

It’s not impossible.

But maybe we need to be torn apart. Maybe, we should split into 2 polities that are free to experiment.

And yet the same people who display outrage over this go on to talk about how Mexico is full of murderers, rapists, thieves, drug dealers etc - which is why tens of millions should migrate into the US asap. Seems a bit contradictory.

There are a bunch of American murderers, rapists, thieves, drug dealers, white supremacists etc - does that mean all Americans should be barred from immigrating to Canada or other countries?

Can't you all just have a conversation with others without trying to defeat them?

Is that the reason for being here, to feel like you're winning?

No, I want to improve our health care system.

All lives matter. And if you value your life as much as I value mine, or the lives of my family members, you avoid the streets. I didn't always feel that way. I think nobody is belittling your life experiences or advocating for yourself and your family. But it is disingenuous to belittle other people's life experiences and social movements like BLM which arose for a very specific reasons. Many of your reasons for attacking BLM or Antifa or or Obama don't actually hold water (i.e. there's too many holes).

One of the reasons why a person like myself (a non-black) is a vocal ally of the black movement in the USA (again a country I do not live in) is because there is both historical and current injustice experienced by the group as a whole which makes them highly vulnerable. What's the proof? black people on average statistically are more likely to live shorter lives, have poorer health, lower education outcomes, higher levels of stress, higher incarceration etc than any other community in the US. Other minority groups like LGBTQI, the disabled, native Americans and non-white hispanics also experience similar disparities.

I'll be honest growing up I never had interest in minority rights or left-wing philosophy but experiencing bullying and ostracism in school did give me a platform to empathise with others later in life. I see disability rights (rights for autism) in the same prism as rights for all downtrodden communities. Mahatma Gandhi is often quoted as saying that how we treat the most vulnerable in society is a reflection of our own values.

BTW the "All lives matter" was created by right wing cynics as a counterprotest to BLM, designed to belittle and extinguish BLM. It was never a genuine concern for "all lives"

Certain patterns of behaviour are typical of one who's experienced a social defeat. Am I not allowed to say so?
Does pointing this out in one conversation out of the thousands I've had here in the past year represent a consistent pattern?

And that will be achieved by arguing on Wrong Planet?

There are those who seem interested in discussing news stories, and then there are those who seem interested in winning and or achieving something here.

We have similar nutjobs in Australia who bring up all kinds of qualities that a "true Australian" should have. If they applied citizenship tests to Australians they would have to deport 70% of the population

You're not alone, but it makes me wonder where we'd stick all the Yankee/Aussie/Canuck nationalists who don't meet their own standards. I for one support 'in orbit' as their final destination.
