** For what it's worth, my friend Leah has described people crossing the street to avoid her, the whole mom grabbing her kid and darting across scenario. Leah is cute, not large enough to be physically intimidating to anyone over the age of 10 and just in general not at all a scary person by any stretch. She's Dogrib, this occurs in Edmonton regularly. She's not the only indigenous friend I have who encounters this in western Canada. I absolutely blame this on anti-native racism. Because I pass if I were to be racially discriminated against it would most likely be motivated 'anti-white' feelings, but I don't believe I've experienced that too much if ever.

The polls got it all wrong because people kept schtum.

Balanced doesn't mean pretending everything is 50/50. As long as racism continues to be a significant issue expect to hear about it. Not wanting to see a lot of threads about a topic doesn't mean that the topic is being overblown, it means it's on a lot of people's minds - most likely because it's relevant even if it doesn't personally impact you.
