if you can afford both the stinkin' iPhone as well as the expensive monthly fees, you are NOT POOR!! not by any stretch of the imagination. by afford I mean you are not without health care and adequate shelter and food.

Currently I have an iPad, iPhone, and Apple Watch. My service bill is about $100 on Verizon with Unlimited... I wouldn’t call this expensive, probably one of my smallest expenses. But the bill can be lower, I know my aunt pays less then $50 for her iPhone. Similar price to her old land line and more versatile.

Used iPhone less then $150... My new iPhone 7 128 gb was $450 plus a $100 bill credit during a model end close out sale. Deals can be had...

AFAIC $100 a month is obscene. where I live there is only Verizon [monopoly] and it costs that much for a basic plan, take it or leave it. of course I have no cell phone. landline will have to do, much cheaper.

I doubt a basic plan is $100... Besides if you are so poor, you are most likely on food stamps and would qualify for lifeline or whatever it’s called (“Obama Phone”). Something I know Verizon supported and would give people a cellphone, you could add features for something like $10 a month. Are you on SSI/SSDI? Because you sound as if you are below the poverty line, like way below.

I grew up in the upper middle class (almost in the 1%, but not quite) and I been dirt poor as an adult (with no parental support for various reasons). I also climbed myself out of poverty and back into the middle class (even then, had some ups and downs). So yes, I would say my head was on the chopping block and I been around the block gaining different experiences.

I grew up poor.

My mom and I would line up for when the Salvation Army truck would pull into our community.

They handed out 1 bag of rice, 1 box of powdered milk, 1 block of cheese.

If you grew up poor, then you know the taste of powdered milk.

My parents stressed, don't end up poor! My parents showed me great affection when I told them of my plans to be successful. My mom nicknamed me "Richie Rich" after the cartoon in the 1980s.

So ignore those with opposing views and claim their life experiences as falsehood, got it  Maybe because I lived in poverty as American and seen 3rd word s**tholes with my own eyes. I can honestly say, our poverty level is far superior. We should be thankful... But nope, it seems some want more because someone else worked for it.

We should do away with EBT and go back to this model.

after this i'm invisible to you, and vice versa, but I have to say that you don't understand that not all of us are intellectually gifted like yourself and/or lacking in major physical restrictions and/or cognitive addlements, and as a result we can't do what you did to get rich or even join the middle class or even the better part of the working class. for you to suggest that I want to rip you off somehow is just adding insult to injury. you sir, have no TOM, and you have no idea how INSULTING you are to those of us who struggle. bye.

Just out of curiosity I looked up a basic plan, it’s $30 plus taxes.

I find it mildly insulting for you to say my past struggles are falsehood and let’s not forget, most if not all of us suffer from a mental condition on this forum. We all have struggles to overcome, more so then others. Some succeed, some don’t... Got to want it and fight for it, in order to achieve it.

that 30 a month doesn't apply in my area. yes, there are exclusions when it comes to Verizon. there is no other service in my area so they take advantage of it.

It’s not hard to get around billing address requirements... I still have my UPS address from my homeless days. Besides, there is prepaid carriers that piggy back off of Verizon (including Verizon’s own prepaid).

yes that is kind of sad in a way.
i grew up in the utmost upper class, and even despite that , i never learned how to talk to people in a way that they felt understanding of.

you are weak if you just give up and lay your head down..you seemed so brave to begin with.
what went wrong?
