[IMPORTANT] Hamas launches foot assault against settlements.
I guess I figure a little dark orange spray tanned humour is better than talking about a bunch of slaughtered kids. Not a lot any of us can do about it besides read some stats in the news and see what happens next.
AUUUGH.....!

Okay, let's narrow this question down a bit because nobody appears to answering it. Forget about past peace processes and the like, what we'd like to know is how should Israel have responded to last weekend's attack by Hamas? It seems like a lot of people here are suggesting that they should have done nothing.
The topic is very delicate and complex.
*I think nothing was done before to avoid this situation.
Hamas is the answer to having done nothing before.
And then they acted badly, building a perpetual state of war.
The conflict arises from an unaccepted presence.
Which then led to a war.
Then to other scary actions.
It is attacked for a reason, and this was *Wanted, by the Western States.
Because the situation in that area had to be mediated decades before in a real way and not just on television with fake handshakes and smiles for the press.
A war response as opposed to a war action is in the logic of things.
But we created that logic.
By doing nothing.
Now we praise the counterattack and we praise the mass extermination of a population.
Do we realize what is being said?
Because it's serious that you actually think so.
Monstrous.
Are we trying to do what hasn't been done for at least 60 years?
Let's eliminate the inequalities of peoples of which both have the same values.
If a Palestinian massacres Israelis, and the same thing happens in reverse, it is monsters.
And it is monstrous to think even in the slightest that a human being should be annihilated.
Do you realize it?
<>
I step aside.
Forever from threads.
<>
I will avoid interacting except in my thread and that's it.
<>
Important: by not writing appropriately in English some of my words may be misunderstood.
I underline one thing: I don't mean that you are the monsters,
But who has the power in their hands and who has had it in their hands before that.
And it triggered a conflict that wouldn't exist now.
<>
I close like this: a human being who voluntarily kills another human being and does so knowingly is a War Criminal.
And those who support it tend not to realize it at all.
It seems to him that it is normal for this to happen, and that it is also right to kill thousands of other human beings.
This is inhumane just to think about it.
Don't you realize it?

^ Well said.
His mother, Hanaan Shahin, 32, was stabbed more than a dozen times, authorities said, adding that she is at a hospital and is expected to survive.
“Detectives were able to determine that both victims in this brutal attack were targeted by the suspect due to them being Muslim and the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict involving Hamas and the Israelis,” the Will County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The meaning is that a war is wrong.
Because we are all human beings, and people have an inviolable right to live and not be annihilated.
My middle name is Davide.
And my parents didn't choose it by chance.
In Judaism, David, of the tribe of Judah, is the king of Israel and the Messiah will descend from him. In Christianity, Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, descends from David. In Islam, David is considered a prophet. He is venerated as a saint by the Catholic Church.
Imagine then how I am astonished in front of those who praise war, know only recent facts, and are not very clear about the situation as a whole, and think that a continuous state of war is legitimate, to be perpetrated with actions that would lead to ever more wars. extended if anything other than the right reaction or what they should do.
.
Let's think about what we Westerners have not done, well considering that those in those territories come from an infinite number of nations from which the Israelis have tried to return to their promised land, certainly not hoping for wars and situations that could escalate into extreme conflicts.
Be very careful because a wrong reaction on both sides can spread the conflict to other nations, even those not nearby, and make it extremely deadly.
And I am certainly not against the Jews, I cannot be, I cannot be against the Palestinians.
But against anyone who kills deliberately.
Better not to write.
I'll stay away.
(Thanks Twilight Princess)

What should be done to fix the problems associated with Israel that have been demonstrated historically and currently?
Clearly, Israel has to change what direction they've been going in, as well. Likud and other right wing parties have proven themselves to be as crypto fascist as the American GOP has become, and what's worse, they've wrapped themselves in Biblical justifications for expansion from thousands of years ago. Clearly, they are hardly less demented than Hamas when you get down to it. Likud and their allies need to be voted out of power.

That is so heartbreaking. Has anyone said anything about this man's background? Is he just a standard, Christian American nut, or does he have any ethnic/religious relation to Israel?

I think he was unhinged with deep-rooted prejudice although more might come out in the coming days. Apparently, he had no criminal charges in the past.
[N]eighbors called him eccentric, and said they were concerned at times about signs in front of the house. Some were political and religious.

According to CAIR’s account of the text messages, the landlord knocked on the family’s door, and when the mother opened it he tried to choke her and attacked her with a knife, yelling, “You Muslims must die!”

Completely agree with what you write!
We are human beings: they want us to forget it.
We are human beings and we have the right to peace, to fulfill ourselves socially, to live in a fair manner, to food and access to water, let's not forget that one hundred thousand people die of thirst.
But also of illness.
Wars cover up social wrongs.
And they have an end: social and resource control.
An Italian film script led to a film "As long as there is war there is hope"
It was released in theaters over half a century ago.
An Italian arms seller went to African nations and sold everything.
One line in the film was "shame on you dad" said by the sons of the gun salesman.
He said: if you don't want me to do it, let me sleep.
If you want to maintain your luxury, then wake me up in half an hour because I have a plane for an African nation at war.
They woke him up 15 minutes early!
Another phrase is: We are rich because they are poor, we plunder them.
I have read many of your posts.
You underline that the defenseless people affected are civilians, and are often children and you also highlighted the conditions of pregnant women who are in very severe conditions.
In wars, strangely, no one almost ever talks to us about women, children and
conditions at the limit of survival, in some cases there is a lack of essential medicines, and in any case a war is always horrendous and entails consequences that are impossible to understand for those who have never experienced one.
I fear that the last phases of wars are consciously decided, to distance us from understanding that the structures have changed.
Since 2019 I have been writing about wars that will take place like the one in Taiwan, but also others.
Many knew everything about the war in Ukraine.
But he's been around for a decade and he didn't care before.
In Italy we are collapsing due to refugees.
Are too many.
Where I am there are half foreigners and half Italians.
We pay for everything.
But soon we won't be able to anymore.
There are also forgotten wars and mass murders, think of the Kurds who are not talked about, the Tibetans, and others.
Also other genocides.
Only in the Amazon there were not only fires.
But more.
We have the power to stop at least two wars; but we don't.
Ukraine and the conflict topic of the thread.
We can.
If we don't stop these wars, even more conflicts will open up.
They are not, as it appears, unrelated to each other, but they have a logic.
And it's geopolitical.
We are in a phase where we can still change it.
In any case, if I see a human being suffering, I don't look at what nationality he belongs to, if I see a massacre, I ask myself what can we do that we don't do to avoid it?
Now the world is polarized.
The West has less than a third of the vote.
The rest will be against us.
This did not happen with other Presidents in power.
Now it has a way of happening everywhere.
While some wars have always been ignored, or fueled on purpose.
Just as gender disparities and violence are fueled, people's rights are forgotten, families are thought of as they were thought a hundred years ago.
But that model doesn't exist: the world has changed completely.
Violence always has a reason and a justification.
Violence never has justifications of any kind.

In Italy and France there are information on potential terrorist attacks.
And not only.
From Euronews:
"According to a video released on the website of the Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, the shooter fired the fatal shots with an automatic rifle: the victims were two Swedish fans wearing the shirts of their national football team
Two people were killed by gunfire in Brussels, the Belgian capital's prosecutor's office said.
According to a video released on the website of the Flemish newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws, the alleged killer, wearing a fluorescent orange jacket, was traveling on a scooter and fled after having fired the fatal shots with a Kalashnikov.
The man allegedly shot several times near a station, shortly after 7pm, at the crossroads between Place Sainctelette and Boulevard du Neuvième de Ligne et d'Ypres.
The victims are two Swedish citizens, dressed in their national team shirt and in the city to watch the match against Belgium at the Heysel Stadium, about five km away.
The refusal
The match was abandoned at half-time: both teams became aware of the situation during half-time, while the president of the Swedish Football Association was escorted out of the stadium.
The Swedish players refused to resume the match, a wish welcomed by the locals.
The claim
The gunman, who allegedly shouted "Allah Akbar" during the shooting in Brussels, published a video in which he claimed to belong to ISIS and boasted of having killed criminals to "avenge Muslims".
Earlier in the day, Slayem Slouma - this is the name used in the video - had written a message about the Muslim child stabbed in Chicago this Sunday, explaining that if he had been Christian the crime would have been classified as an "act of terrorism and not a brutal crime". .
A spokesperson for the Prosecutor's Office said an investigation had been opened, without providing further details.
The shooting occurred at a time of particular vigilance linked to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas which has heightened tension in several European nations.
At the same time, the Belgian capital has been the scene of an increase in violence linked to the growing international drug trafficking.
The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, spoke of an "abject attack".
I tried to translate because the link is in Italian.

^ It certainly seems like it was involved on some level. I think it demonstrates how dangerous and dehumanizing biased information can be. While most people aren't going to engage in extreme behavior, I've certainly seen and heard some concerning sentiments expressed by some which could also contribute in a small way to the current polarizing climate. It's not uncommon for people to lose sight of the fact that we're all human beings when stereotypes and generalizations are so prevalent. Dehumanizing and demonizing the other is nothing new. I just think it's more accessible than it used to be.

Yes it's nothing new. The animosity against Jewish people is thousands of years old. The whole reason Abraham fled the babylonians is because thousands of years ago as his people were forced to flee. Their adherence to their faith is very old. It will continue to be a source of conflict with the Palestinians for centuries more after we are both long gone.
