I'm 63. I'll no doubt catch the virus , and die soon.

I'm older and I am more optimistic. There are not so many fatalities in comparison even to flu. I am taking vitamin C to build my immunity, plenty of fresh air and most importantly not to worry.
I think the Middle East and Asia are more at risk. Iran has many casualties also unfortunately.

There are all types of face mask. Many people are buying construction type facemark that cannot filter out fine particles. Viruses are extremely small and will readily pass through this type of mask. N95 and N100 will prevent most of the virus particles. Then you have new mask that incorporate metal ions. These mask will kill the viruses and not just filter them. Many people do not know the difference. It is common to see people in Home Depot, Lowes or Menards buying boxes of construction mask that will do them no good.

Also when is it important to wear good mask. If you are transporting someone who has contracted the coronavirus. It is very important that they wear mask. Anyone infected that comes in contact with people or even anyone suspected of being infected should be wearing a mask. If you are at home and caring for a loved one who is infected. Both should wear mask. Everyone in hospitals should wear mask.

It is possible to become infected through the eyes and as a result many people are wearing goggles or perhaps safety glasses to counter that threat.

Then there are people who carry the whole threat to another level. People can panic and invent their own approach which may not make a bit of logical sense at times.

I think you are correct! I just came back from a convention with 5000 participants, some from Asia and Italy, from all continents. Some of my friends were putting hydrogen peroxide drops in their ears and were literally terrified of Corona, (some nutty doctor on YouTube recommended it). It was a spiritual gathering and they overcame their fear and came nevertheless. Sometimes nonsense has a placebo effect so I didn't laugh. Statistics would say I am more likely to die in an accident or from a heart attack I think.

At this point

South Korea now has 893 cases, compared to just 28 on Feb. 14. The country now has the second-largest amount of cases in the world, with an increase of 130 infected in the past 24 hours.

What is troubling is that "A cabin crew worker from Korean Air tested positive for coronavirus the airline said Tuesday and details about what routes the employee flew were not immediately known". In todays world with modern transportation by aircraft, the coronavirus can jump around the world in a matter of hours.

Japan has 838 cases (691 from the cruise ship Diamond Princess (4 deaths).

The CDC also announced 18 more cases in the U.S. on Monday, bringing the total infected to 53. Many of these came from the cruise ship.

Italy has 219 cases (5 deaths).

Iran has 61 cases (12 deaths).

Yes we have four infected Israelis from the Diamond Princess Japan, all doing well now, despite old age. Some South Koreans (undiagnosed but with contact with the virus) unfortunately are breaking quarantine and continuing to tour. It's a real mess. We have several hundred South Korean tourists here just now (Easter?) For some reason they can't fly directly to South Korea so we are looking for alternative routes, they have been several days at the airport. Perhaps my government has banned incoming flights from South Korea since the infected tourists? Guess that's it.

It gets worse now that scientists are resurrecting ancient viruses trapped frozen in ice and don't respond to modern medicine.

I wanted to comment on two things:

1.) Metal ions technically do not “kill” viruses, as they are not alive in the literal sense. They are a piece of genetic coding that infects a host and causes the host to replicate the virus in bulk. What the metal ions can do is to damage the genetic coding such that it either cannot infect a host or be replicated by the host. That can prevent the spread of the virus in a limited area. So, the metal ions do give a potential advantage to the user, but it is not perfect. I am thinking about making a special chelation spray that could be used in a pinch for temporary protection.

2.) I never thought there would come a day when laboratory personal protection equipment could become the standard fashion outside of the laboratory. Guess I was dead wrong. Maybe I was ahead of my time when I would forget that I was wearing my lab glasses and take them outside of the lab to wherever I was going in college. That usually got me a “Nerd” or “Dork” comment by other students. Now, not so much.

They are escaping from the melting ice without needing scientists to help them. Scientists are trying to find them first before they infect a host so that we have a chance to prevent an epidemic if we can.

A group of us came back from an extended trip to the far east yesterday. There was no screening for Corovirus-19 (i.e., "Corona Virus", "Snake Virus", "Wuhan Virus", et cetera) at Los Angeles International Airport (e.g., "LAX") -- no infrared cameras, no remote temperature sensors, no thermometers of any kind, and no questions regarding where we had been, with whom we had been in contact, and how we were feeling.

Now, I'm not saying that all of the kerfuffle regarding Corovirus-19 is unwarranted, but if it is such a deadly threat, then why isn't the busiest international airport on the west coast employing more serious screening protocols on passengers coming from China, Korea, Japan, the Philippines, et cetera?

The only things they were interested in knowing were if we were bringing in items worth more than $100 that we had purchased overseas, and whether or not we had any live plants, seeds, fruits, vegetables, or other "raw" agricultural products with us.

There is a great disparity between the Media hype of this virus and the actual precautions being taken.

I have to wonder 'why?'.

We have 14-day quarantines here at Kennedy Airport for people who are arriving from anywhere in China.

Really?

When was the last time you passed through JFK on your way home from China or anywhere else in the Far East?

Even though other countries are also reporting Corovirus-19 cases among their citizens?

There's something political going on here.

China has, by far, the most cases of the Coronavirus at this point. About 75 times more than South Korea.

I believe they are thinking of implementing travel restrictions from other countries, too.

U.S. coronavirus outbreak inevitable, CDC official says

Quote:
A coronavirus outbreak in the United States is now inevitable, a top CDC official said Tuesday, elevating concerns that the public health emergency could soon become a full-scale pandemic.

“Ultimately, we will see community spread in this country,” Nancy Messonnier, the director of the CDC’s National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases told reporters on a call. “It’s not a question of if but rather a question of when and how many people in this country will have severe illness.”

CDC and other health officials have for weeks suggested the potential for the coronavirus to spread in the United States but Messonnier said recent reports of community spread in countries like South Korea and Italy have made it increasingly unlikely that the United States will avoid an outbreak. To date, there are 53 confirmed U.S. cases, according to CDC.

“CDC is concerned about the situation but we are putting our concerns to work preparing,” she said. “Now is the time for hospitals, schools and everyday people to begin preparing as well.”

She added that authorities are working with states and localities on contingencies like promoting telework or discouraging large public gatherings if the virus spreads.
