Not amazed at all. Authoritarian figures like Trump appeal to the like-minded - people who like to have power over others. There are plenty of these in the police, correctional services, armed forces.

There were several ex-military involved also.

I have no doubt that, in their view, they were being brave upholders of American values.

Where I work, there are some people who like Trump----but I do believe most thought the Insurrection was totally idiotic.

An old buddy from junior high (middle school they now call it) got into contact with me on Facebook. It took no time for him to reveal how he's bought hook-line-and-sinker into Trump. I can recite every fact known to man about Trump, and he'll say it's commie lies. He now insists the capitol had been invaded by Antifa. Then there's how he insists the Civil War had been fought over states rights. So, yes, they are stupid, and intentionally so.

A friend of mine maintains that this all started with Obama ridiculing Trump in a public speech, at a function that both attended. Ever since it's been a very personal grudge match.

I ought to trawl YouTube for it, but can't bring myself to do so.
