Yes - when I was about 12 I read a book and a governess was described thus: "Perfectly safe" was written all over her. I thought those words were actually incorporated in the motif of her dress.

I sometimes forget about the tendency to jump to the conclusion of something being taken literally since I have been pushed in the direction of stopping to think an extra minute or two about all possible meanings of someone else's words.

This is especially true with written words in a forum. You can’t see the person’s face.

I get it right more often these days. I make use of context, and whether the statement seems absurd to me.
