Personally, I applaud Obama for his statement. Not only does it show he understands some portion of American pop culture, it also demostrates that he doesn't put up with BS, even from celebrities.
As for the appropriateness of the comment, some COC's have said some worse things when they thought no one was listening. Look at Nixon. My dad told me that the FBI had footage of him befouling the air on the Watergate tapes.
Apparently the "F-bomb" takes on a whole different aspect to its definition when it's user is in command of the nation's nuclear arsenal.
