The smoke is driving me crazy! There are little particles of ash and soot in it, and the skies are really hazy. I woke up coughing at 6:00 a.m. I hope it rains really hard, and puts all these fires out in Florida! :x

Cool! I love meteorology, though it can be hard for me to remember the terms, lol!!

I'm not really that deep into as in I'm not doing heavy research on it and I probably will get lost in alot of the technobabble so to speak. But I love discussions on weather.

You can tell from my username that I am somewhat of a big weather freak.

I would looooovvvvee to be part of a storm chaser group but lol, I can't seem to find any active ones around here.

I love thunderstorms, hurricanes and other storm systems.

And like some of the other posters on here, I just love looking at weather maps, for some reason I like looking at the isobars and figuring out how how or how low they are.

I'm wondering though, what is a low pressure trough?

Ok, the storm we had in memphis today was nasty. It was looming over the horizon when i had the damn fool idea to go ride my electric scooter. First, lightning. One of the first strikes in the storm front was on the very edge, close enough to where you could see the flash without looking directly at the bolt. At this time, i was barreling home on my scooter, and when i saw the flash, i thought it was going to hit me, so i ditched my scooter with all the grace of a chunin ninja, landing in the grass beside the street (Chunin ninja? YEAH RIGHT. Even Naruto could have pulled that off without falling on his @$$). At that moment i knew i would proably get struck if i continued, so i went to a nearby house that had their garage open. The house was empty (it was for sale, and it was open house day) and the door was unlocked and alarm deactivated, so i put my scooter in the garage and took refuge in the house. Soon i was joined by two of my friends, who also happened to be out and had seem me run for cover. Next, rain. It started raining really hard, so we were pretty much stuck. It was fine until we started getting thirsty (it had been 103 Farenheit that same day). We saw a break in the torrent of rain and lightning, so we went next door to my friend's house. Around that time, the power went out. I stayed in the half open garage, but my friends wanted to go outside and play football in the rain. They did until the core of the storm got within 0.1 miles away from our location, judging by the freqency of the ligtning strikes witin a 0.5 mile radius. After several flash-crack-booms and some swearing on my part, my mother called my cellphone to find out where i was. I told her i was safe. About that time there was another break in the storm, and the rain almost stopped. My mom told me to try and make a break for the house, so i got on my scooter and gunned it home. Now my garage faces the side yard, and my neighbors driveway is right next to my own, with only a half foot between the two concrete paths. The storm was beginning to act up again, so rather than drive up my own driveway, i drove up my neighbor's and crossed over the median. UNFORTUNATELY, my garage was half-open, so I tried to duck underneath the door and ended up doing what I would call half of a fishtail - in other words, sliding sideways under the door and coming to a rather explosive halt into the equipment shelves in the back (well, I DID avoid the explosive halt part... barely). All said, this experience bas put me off storm chasing for life... or at least until next month.

It's 76 degrees Fahrenheit, and muggy. Been running the A/C most of the day. How I wish it would cool down a little. I miss the autumnal splendor of the Northeast.

The weather's been acting weird here all day. It's been windy with that strange undercurrent feel to it that makes you wonder what the temperature is going to be like the next morning.

Boy, I'm glad that I'm not the only one who discusses the weather.

A cold front just swept through my area, and it's supposed to be cold and rainy today.

Still in the high 80's, here. Sooo tired of heat and humidity.

It was cold and windy yesterday. The wind caused lots of nuts to fall from my pecan tree. I now have 2 grocery bags full of pecans. Today, I'm going to start cracking them.

Does anyone know if it's true that it doesn't snow, or is a lot less likely to snow, below a certain temperature? People used to say that when I lived in Maine. If this is true, does anyone know why?
