If it was genetic then autism would actually decrease instead of increase. Think Darwin and natural selection.
Wonderful land of AUT topic
When a child is found to be less than perfect (however mom and dad define it) we rush to blame something, whether vaccines, alien abductions, mcrowave ovens or gamma rays. Whatever.
Much of this is genetic. My father suffered from alcoholsim, depression, and probably he was Aspie. My brother has tourettes, my sister has depression, as does my youngest daughter. I never received MMRs, as I am in my fifties. My oldest daughter has a wonky uterus/pituitary gland and is unable to carry a zef to term. Vaccines did not cause any of this. Humans are not perfect. We learn to live with our limitations, and get medical/psychological help to work with challenges. Maybe someday we can keep the good genetic stuff(like creative Autism!) and weed out the bad, nonfunctioning, debilitating crap.
A century ago, many babies born with challenges did not see the light of day for long, and many with lower functioning Autism probably died of other causes before their challenges would be visible and more of an issue to the family/society. We live longer due to many fortunate benefits, including healthcare, social safety nets, education, and the like, so many Autistic people live longer, and so their challenges are visible. I for one, am glad we are here, as we have a lot to teach humanity, if the rest of the world would listen. (Hey, I love lecturing from atop my virtual soapbox.
