That is true, but this person wasn't coming into school to do porn, so I don't see how it's even a problem in the first place.

As I said before, it's just the media making a big deal over nothing.

She is an actress. She has starred in non-porn films too, notably Smash Cut alongside the late, great David Hess.

her body of work is not really stellar, and she didn't exactly "star" in that film - she has fifth billing. i stand by what i said - in terms of actual work, she is still a nobody if you remove the porn work. there is no reason based on her body of work that she should be considered a special guest. she is not famous for acting.

as well, all or most of her work is rated above what those schoolchildren are allowed to watch. it makes no sense to invite someone who acts in programs that are considered too adult for the kids to even watch.

school have a certain moral responsibility. you might disagree with that, but it still exists. it's their job to protect kids from that kind of influence.

Keep it neutral then.

taht makes no sense. porn is not in the school curriculum.

I would have enjoyed school a lot more if it was, I must say.

What influence? A lady came in and read to them. She's a special guest because she's been in a few movies (which are non-porn). She didn't come to talk about porn or read erotica or do a striptease, she read normal kids' books. There is simply no issue.

she was in a few movies that the kids can't watch, and she is famous for being a porn star. that is the problem right there. inviting her into the classroom implicitly advocates that her body of work is morally/ethically acceptable, which is not appropriate for a school to be doing.

in general, it's funny that people assume that me (or anyone thinking along the same lines as me) must have some kind of moral opposition to porn (or even masturbation lol). but my personal feelings about it are not reflected in my judgement here. schools and teachers are bound by the moral code of the greater community, and parents have a right to expect that schools will be extremely conservative in terms of violence and sexuality.

Agreed. She's an actress, that's all there is to it. As long as no mention was made of her porn past (and none of the adults started mentioning it) I can't see a problem.

we could be all of those things, just not as experienced. that was a very low comment, by the way.

try googling her name and see what comes up. it's not infamy, but rather porn.

whatever. average people are NOT the ones on the screen or in the public eye, this is reality. anyways, it's obvious that she was not the best choice if the goal was to have a moral exemplar in front of the kids. but i wonder if the reaction would've been as censorious if it were a [nominally] non-porn actress such as britney or madonna in front of those kids? the hypocrisy of it all reminds me of some lines in phil ochs' song, "outside of a small circle of friends"

- "there's a dirty paper, using sex to make a sale-
the supreme court was so upset they sent him off to jail-
maybe we should help the fiend and take away his fine-
but we're too busy reading playboy and the sunday new york times
."

That's just brilliant. Nothing more need even be said.
