It probably wasn't the smartest move for the cops to shoot at a fleeing vehicle in a crowded city like D.C. Assuming that they used hollow points, if they miss the bullet will just continue on its path of trajectory.

Hollow points mushroom, creating a bigger cavity, but also have less penetration, besides the drag on a hollow point is more than on an fmj, the fmj will keep going farther. Hollow points are safer around crowded areas due to the low penetration, and the fact people could be behind the target.

8 gauge slug through an engine block? Anyone? AP Ar-15 rounds? No? Can't shoot the engine block anymore?

I've personally seen a .45 Hydra-Shok penetrate a door, two interior walls, and a bathtub, so less penetration is a relative term. Less penetration or not, loosing a lot of them in a crowded area is still a pretty irresponsible move, especially when the suspect is fleeing in a car rather than actively threatening anyone.

You do know that for all it's mass, an 8 gauge slug still wouldn't penetrate a cast iron engine block, right? That is, assuming the cops keep something as esoteric as an 8 gauge shotgun around in the first place, if they could even find one for sale. What they use these days is a 12 gauge round loaded with hardened steel cubes that are designed to penetrate the engine compartment and shred hoses and electronic components, not actually penetrate the engine block. Something like a .50 steel core AP round might be able to *crack* an engine block, but even that isn't going to actually go through it, the round just doesn't have that much penetrating power.

She was outside the car when the cops killed her, there was no justification for that at all.

If thats the case, that she was out of the car, then disregard my above post defending the cops which was based on the assumption that she was in the car.

Did you see the part where it said "old Soviet car"? Or the broken English of the captioning? I'm a bit, eh, skeptical, to say the least.

Yea, but they have to hit something first which was my point. It's a good thing the police don't follow the Hauge Convention of 1907 or else we would have FMJs flying through the walls as we hit the deck to survive officer friendly.

These cops are out of control, how come you never hear anybody clamoring to take their guns away? This state sanctioned MURDER with no recourse. If a civilians murders somebody, they go to prison. If a cop murders someone, they might get a medal. Heroes my foot.
