I can't speak for your neck of the woods, but here in the Pacific Northwest, a tweaker is a meth addict.

Same here, they resemble zombies after awhile.Pale, sores and really bad teeth. They like to prowl around at night. They don't sleep much.

That doesn't sound very 'tweaky'. As a matter of fact, sounds downright scary.

We had a neighbor who recently got carted off by an ambulance after the police had to remove him, following some sort of mental breakdown complete with paranoid delusions. He was known by everyone in our apartment complex to be a drug abuser, and I suspect a meth addict.

New pictures released by an American police force show the horrific effects of methamphetamine abuse

as Kraichgauer mentioned, the 'tweeker' is well known in the Pacific Northwest.
Bless their hearts, Calgon can't take them as far away as Meth can, and they desperately want to get away.

I do detect a certain 'zombification' in those pictures.
But what is 'calgon' ?
(I must be getting old.)

It's a water softener used for relaxation and beatification by overwrought women ("Calgon, take me away!" had been their slogan).

Oh good. I was afraid it was slang for some other drug I'm not familiar with ....

Just don't confuse Calgon with bath salts or you will be getting a nasty drug.

Just think of tweakers taking bath salts - not only would they already look like zombies, but they'd eat your face off, too!

oops, wrong hemisphere! in the Northern Hemisphere it's a popular brand of fragrant bath salts whose ad states "Calgon, take me away" 'The illusion being, sitting in tepid, overpoweringly lilac Epsom water has transported you to the Aurora halls trailing steamy glory from each nostril from perfect satisfaction and then arriving back on your bath mat dabbing at the cascading drops with the towel around you, the better for the experience.

Unfortunately, Meth really DOES take you away. Started in the 50's in the agricultural migrant workers in California, becoming popular like "bennies" for truck drivers because time is money! You can work like a machine on Meth. and money is time. And it feels as good as those pics look bad.
there but for the grace of God, go I.
