Muhammad was a man of his times. I would say he was sort of "par for the course."

To me, he was just some guy who had the will to power, and who thought he received the revelations from Allah, so that he could create the Koran. Subsequently, he felt the need to "civilize" the people around him, whether by hook, or by crook.

He was similar to Buddha in that he was a profligate person who became less profligate because he saw some sort of transcendent "light." The difference, really, is that the Buddha went much farther in asceticism, and much farther in wisdom than Muhammad.

I truly wish we could have Islamic scholars, and Sufi Muslims, who could publicly speak out against the excesses of radical Islam. Issue symbolic fatwas to counterbalance the fatwas issued by radicals.

We really don't hear the voices of moderate Islam enough, to be honest. If we heard more of these voices, there would probably be less Islamophobia.

You say Muhammad was a man of his time. Well, I sort of agree with you then. Warlords of that time were evil bastards. Should Muslims look up to evil bastards as a matter of course? If I looked up to Adolf Hitler, people would call me a bigot. Why isn't looking up to a racist, a mass murderer, a totalitarian, a bigot, a slaver, a thief, a supremacist, an adulterer, a child marrier, a child rapist, and a warmonger considered bigotry?

Islamophobia doesn't exist. It's a term used to stifle criticism of Islam, and unkind comments about that deeply unpleasant ideology.

I'm not saying anti-Muslim bigotry doesn't exist. It does. And it should be stamped on, and it is when it's found.

There are some Muslims I would be honoured to call allies. But there aren't very many of them. For every Naser Khader, Maajid Nawaz and Usama Hasan, there's a Haitham al-Haddad, a Moazzam Begg, a Shakeel Begg or a Yusuf al-Qaradawi.

'Islamophobia' most times only ever exists because of how Muslims behave. It's not like anti-Semitism, where slurs and libels were cooked up in order to stir up hate against Jews.

Personally, I think anti-Semitism is a more serious ill in the world than anti-Muslim bigotry. Anti-Semitism runs deep in Islam, from Muhammad's time to the present day.

I think it's important to keep in mind that over 20% of the world's population is Muslim. We don't want to make it seem like we are waging war with 20% of the world's population. I enjoy attacking religion as much as the next atheist/agnostic but we need to get our priorities straight, and rationally, it makes sense to use a little bit of tact (edit: I'm talking about presdient's use of the phase "radical terrorist" rather than "radical Islamist") We don't want to wage war with Muslims as a whole, obviously, unless we just want to nuke a bunch of countries.

I'd do a happy dance is well if Islam (and Christianity) died out. I don't expect it to happen anytime soon.

They don't look up to Muhammad because he was a warlord. They look up to him because he supposedly actually SPOKE with Allah, wrote the Koran based on Allah's words, and created Islam.

Fears grow for priest 'kidnapped by ISIS' who may be crucified on Good Friday. http://tiny.iavian.net/9jkz

I can't stop crying after I read this. God isn't going to stand for this crap much longer! Jesus is going to come back and stop these I can't even think of a name bad enough. They're straight from the depths of hell! God please help us.

What you call "Zeitgeist" (mind/spirit of the Age) is in fact the masters own mind in which the ages are mirroring themselves. (Faust)

I think that is more correct.

Islamophobia (or phobias in general) has a lot to do with anxiety. some people with certain neurologic dispositions develop anxiety disorders much more easily than others. And that is what it is, in this case: a disorder. With more cognitive empathy, no islamophobia.

I feel the same way as you do about ISIS, Angela.

I feel all ISIS should be torn to smithereens. That's insanity, what they're doing.

But not all Muslims are like ISIS.

I do wish we would hear more from the moderate Muslims, though.

Plenty of moderate and liberal Muslims have spoken against ISIS and the other extremists - Bill Maher has had them on his show - but most of the media doesn't showcase them.

Bill Maher also isn't afraid to speak frankly about Islam either

Yes, absolutely. He tells it as he believes it is, but is willing to listen to voices of reason, whoever they might be.

I'm back to my old grumpy self now, Mr. K. I got a little bit emotional there - I'm an NT female and that happens every now and then. I had to get control of myself anyway - my sinuses got all stopped up and my eyes started getting too puffy. Can't have that happening cause I don't have any cucumbers in the house. Anyway, I think what really bothered me was the crucifying of a priest on Good Friday - just like Jesus was. That and the beheadings - it's like we're living back in the days of Christ. Everything's just a mess. All I can do is pray. It's funny, because all of this is supposed to be happening in the End Times. Just never thought I'd be here to see it.

Yeah, fears grow. In particular with those who have already a disposition to develop anxiety disorders. The others have cognitive empathy and get at least a little better how a phenomena like ISIS comes into being, and what to do in order to curb it in the future. "End times" or "depths of hell" scenarios is NOT what would curb it, but at least you can be proud of having very similar idiocies in your head than the terrorists have in theirs...

Obviously, there was a definite purpose in ISIS doing what they are doing on Good Friday.

Wouldn't it be something, though, if that person "resurrected," and killed the ISIS executioner and all who were around him?

This is why we need CHANGE in the White House and the reason I'm for someone who is trying to have SOME plan against ISIS. This is disgraceful.
