So true.They did use some chemicals,he bemoaned the fact he couldn't get arsenic anymore to kill the potato bugs.
I have no idea what he was exposed to in WWI in France,he was so tough I doubt mustard gas would have harmed him.He had a veggie garden till the year before he died.He had some stomach problems and was afraid to see the doc,it turned out to be a non cancerous cyst that ruptured and that's what killed him.If he had went in early and had it removed I don't doubt he would still be around growing tomatoes.He always drank gallons of tea,hot and cold.Tols stories of coming to Arkansas from Missouri in a covered wagon.I don't think he was sick a day till he died,maybe that was the secret,avoid doctors.lol
