No, I was mentioning something someone else said which I found amusing. Which has absolutely nothing to do with critical thinking. Which you probably would have realized if you yourself had applied critical thinking to the matter.

Another thing I learned in school is what context means.


I'm much older than you, have more education and more life experience than you. You are being very rude and dismissive to me. You're not even an adult yet. You might want to rethink your attitude towards adults who have more education and life experience than yourself, and take into consideration how your own perspective might change and expand as you become an adult and further your education. If you were less dismissive, you might actually pick up some wisdom from others who have been where you've been and also been around for longer than you. There is no need to be rude.


Get over yourself and stop putting down others based on age or education.

I mean why don't you also make a case that I'm too cognitively impaired to know what I'm saying while you're at at it.

The one being dismissive is you.


I really don't understand what I have done in this thread that I deserve to be talked to like this. Why this rudeness to me personally, when you haven't reacted this way to others in the thread who disagreed with you? Have I done something to you to prompt this particularly nasty response? Is there something I need to apologise for?


You're the one who made it personal. And my responses were in direct proportion to what I was responding to.

A few debating rules I've learned:

Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Don't play the victim after being aggressive, just because someone got the better of you.


All I did was ask you two questions, how is that making it personal? Is it because I asked about what you have learned in school? Is that too personal and rude to ask in such a forum?

You're both wrong and at fault. And this isn't PPR so I've reported the thread so the mods can move it or lock it.

I'm only saying this to try to calm you down before someone says something really regretful and gets banned.

I feel like it might help if I explain why I asked about critical thinking and whether it is being taught in high school or not. Ezra you are American, are you not? I have been told that in America critical thinking is not a standard taught early in one's education, that many people don't encounter the concept until they reach college. I was simply wondering if that was the case where you are, if your high school perhaps was one of the ones I was told about that don't teach critical thinking skills. I'm sorry if that came across as rude and dismissive, that wasn't my intent. I really just wanted to know if that was something you had been taught because not everyone has been taught to think for themselves and how to critically analyse the information that comes at them. I hope this explanation clears up this issue and we can continue in a more civil tone going forward.

I mean like what if people were telling me how astute I am for someone with cognitive impairments? Or that I'm not in a position to say something based on being cognitively impaired?

I think it's because they can't fathom how a young 15/16 yr old teenager can hold a view about a seasoned veteran actor as being "washed up"

People tend to think wisdom or enlightenment doesn't happen till you are well past the nappy years

I really don't see how being asked if you're a mindless parrot and didn't they teach you how to think (or words to that effect) is something that's going to received as anything positive. I believe most would take it as rude, accusatory and dismissive et al. Now apparently in your case, it was a perfectly innocent inquiry and you fell victim to someone with autism saying something viewed offensive without meaning it to be.

As to my education, since you asked, I have always attended very exclusive private education along with formal online homeschool education.

Please guys, don't let this thread degenerate as it has for the past two pages into a battlefield between various members. We don't want to lock it but may have to if it carries on like this!

Ezra and Wilburforce, I know you are capable of better, more thoughtful levels of discussion which avoid personal reference to age, experience etc or lack thereof. Peace!

Ageism is just as unwelcome as sexism, homophobia or other intolerance - whether it is the young or the old being targeted.

Someone makes an offhand anecdotal sarcastic remark about some movie star I knew nothing about (which applies to the majority of movie stars) which I found amusing.

Obviously I am unfamiliar with the term "washed up" considering I wasn't aware of how FREAKED OUT people were going to act over me REPEATING IT.

What I'm wondering is what 16/17 year olds are like where these people are from. Apparently they are uneducated and highly immature. More like 5 year olds apparently.

I'm scared. Trump is dangerous and unfit for office. I've signed petitions, casted my vote for Hillary and donated. I don't think the EC is going to put her in though. It's just too long of a shot. I am nervous about Trump...hes already causing trouble in China and he has a connection to Putin. It will be the Cold War all over again. The thing I don't get is why they haven't arrested him yet for his dealings with Russia.

Ezra, if you can acknowledge that my intent was innocent I would hope that your next step would be to apologise for overreacting to an honest question. I apologised for my part for not wording my inquiry well or considering properly how it might be taken. I also would like to apologise if my posts came across as ageist--learning happens at a different rate for everyone, and I was really unsure as to whether critical analysis was something your school may have covered or not. For most of us, with education and age comes some amount of wisdom and life experience; surely, it's not a given that just because someone has been alive for a while they have accumulated some knowledge and wisdom, but most people do acquire some knowledge and wisdom over time as they experience life, especially if they have been educated and continue to educate themselves as they age. I didn't know it was ageist to say that.

Pumpkin, my saying that it gave me a laugh when I looked it up, made it perfectly clear that it was something I had looked up and read. There's nothing for me to own up to. I attributed that statement to something I had read, rather than attempting to take credit for it. The problem here, is the inability of others to decipher the obvious context of something. I was amused by the statement as a whole. It's others who became unfathomably obsessed and distressed over two words in a ten word summery of someone they don't know and probably couldn't name a single movie he was in off the top of their head other than Apocalypse Now. And outside of Sheen and Brando, probably have no idea who else acted in it.
