My view is that ugliness begins when a country elects a leader knowing that he or she lacks the basic character qualities of good faith and good will. From there the ugliness grows exponentially, faster when the leader is a person of great ill will and longstanding bad faith.

There is an old maxim that "you get what you pay for", which contains a broad truth. In a similar vein, you get what you vote for.

It will get worse.

Sorry but you just don't get it. Clinton and Sanders have both supported the banker bailouts and every ear from Kosovo to Yemen. She supported the sanctions on Iraq that killed 500,000 children. She laughed and bragged about getting a child rapist's sentence reduced. She laughed about destroying Libya. So don't talk about "good faith and good will".

Trump is a consequence of people like Clinton and Obama. Trump was a vote against the establishment and Clinton was the embodiment of the establishment.

The US had two chances to vote for Ron Paul and instead voted in a fraudulent, spineless crook. In the last election all the anti war candidates were swept aside and Trump ended up being the biggest anti war candidate by a mile (another reason he was voted in).

The left could hold his feet to the fire over that but they have lost the plot.

So what does all that have to do with Trump and the wrongs he has comitted?

It's ridiculous that they were refused service at that restaurant. It's more like something that happened in the South to black people in the pre-Civil Rights days. I don't believe this sets a good precedent at all.
When it comes to racism and the racists who practice it, turnabout is fair play.

It seems like what that really boils down to is, anyone who's not an anti-trump democrat liberal or similar, is branded a "racist" by default. So any mistreatment they receive is justified. If they want to avoid this, they need to change their political views.

No people who behave in a racist manner get consequences, its not about sterotyping anyone who is not a liberal. A good majority of the people who have been social media shamed 'actually' exibited racist behavior...it wasn't just because they weren't a liberal. For instance the guy who tried to bar a black woman and her kids going into a pool she had access to as she lived in the community and had a card to let her into the pool. The guy kept demanding her ID but no one elses.....yeah sure I bet the only problem people had with him is he wasn't a liberal. It couldn't have had anything to do with him targeting this black women to demand more identification than any other pool-goers had to. Nah it must have been that people figured he wasn't a liberal

Please do post the link to this, I am certainly curious of people threatening to kill the president having absolutely no penalties brought against them whatsoever.

I found it …

"Authorities later downplayed the threats and indicated the trio had little chance of successfully killing Obama"

The key that you didn’t mention or at least it looks like you didn’t mention. Jailed due to - weapons and narcotics. Not due to “talking.”

“On August 24, 2008, Gartrell was arrested when police found his truck filled with weapons and narcotics.”

Hell, those punks got off TOO easy considering they were planning a murder (intent) and were found with WEAPONS in their possession (means):

“The three men were charged with drug and weapons charges and sentenced, but did not face federal charges of threatening a presidential candidate.”

A lot of rednecks talked about murdering Obama back then, hell rednecks marched through streets with signs openly proclaiming “lynch Obama” and nothing happened to them.

Have any examples where people were arrested just for speaking? Since that 2008 example isn’t it, arrested for weapons and narcotics is different from arrested for speaking.

So, yeah, I actually DO see a double standard - WHITE MEN were caught planning to murder a president, they were part way through their plan (by driving to where Obama was), and they had the WEAPONS on them to try to carry it out - but they ONLY faced charges for weapons and drugs instead of the federal charge that they deserved. As if a minority can do anything even remotely similar and get off this clean. Just revolting and utterly sickening.

Thanks for pointing this case out.

Minority groups can, and will continue to, call others in our groups out.

Anyone who doesn't like that should stop being snowflakes. 8O

The "anti political correctness" right is trying to make people believe that they care about political correctness now?

Sorry, but very, very few minorities take right wingers seriously at all. Years of abuse from the right does that.

Charlottesville cemented what all of us minorities already knew while bringing it into the light for all to see - it's why the majority of us don't vote right-wing and view the fringe in our group who do as being comically insane.

you are very fortunate indeed. I think if I was Canadian, after my worst day on earth, i'd still be able to comfort myself by saying, "still 'tis not all bad, at least you're not an amuuurican."

I may become a Canadian in a couple of years if Rome keeps on burning, Canada is already way better than here.

from what I've read-
better have some combination of the following- a net worth at least $800k and/or a viable 5-year business plan, have relatives in-country, no health or psychiatric problems, not so much as a speeding ticket on your record, at least a 4-year degree in some field Canada can use. it might be somewhat easier to gain permanent residence in Ecuador or Costa Rica. both those places have excellent and affordable health care.

As a 1%er in NY, Toronto is literally a couple of hours away from my home town which makes the move beyond simple. So, only question is whether it's going to be needed or not.

pretty tough for us yanks- gotta have relatives in-country or marry an Icelander. have a professional job skill they can use, be invited to a university there and demonstrate financial solvency.

(clicky)all you need to know about moving to Iceland
