I loved San Antonio, there is not a prettier place for a month in the spring and fall. if it weren't for heat stroke and frostbite i'd live there year-round.

...My father comes from the San Antonio area, and I have thought of, if I went to Texas, gooing there ~ or more usual " artsy " TX place Austin. NOt the rural county n(Upshur) where my sh***y cousins who stole my percentage of an inheritance from me are from! :(

One year on, Donald Trump is still an illegitimate president

As a republican not a democracy we don’t elect our president by popular vote as that would be unfair to the minority. and states. If we did only wear and east coast would matter and everyone in between would be subjects not citizens who are under the thumb of the coasts.

And yet do we want our collective fate decided by otherwise inconsequential, under populated states?

Yes as we are a republic. Unless you’ll let all those states leave the union? Why should have their fate decided by bunch of liberals on the coast? That’s why Northern California wants to get separate, and it’s why we rebooted against the British. Yet you think a bunch of people in California should decide what happens in Iowa with their say.
California, New York are not the United States they should never get to decide the president alone like you want. Want to change it tell people in those states to disperse across the nation rather then piling up in a few cities.

I never said people in places like Iowa shouldn't have the same voice as coastal states, I just don't like where they seem to be taking us in regard to lack of acceptance toward Americans who aren't lily white, Christian, or straight.
Incidentally, as you and I are both sons of the Pacific Northwest, we actually share a similar regional culture with California. So it's not just California values, it's Pacific Coast values that I'm lauding.

The pnw values are being killed by Californians. Pnw use to be super pro gun while being pro welfare now it’s turning into California part 2 and when they ruin it they move in to Idaho never connecting its them that makes the state horrible.

Say what you will, but I'll take California over Texas, Mississippi, or Indiana.
I've lived here my whole life, and I seriously don't have a problem with Californians.

Doesn’t have to be either or we could just keep our pnw culture.

It's Seattle and Portland, like any big cities, that are getting too expensive to live in.

Both run by Democrats and over taxed. Hmm seems most the expensive cities are Democrat run. All those policies and taxes they pass probably then they move away until they do it where they moved then repeat. Eventually they going run out of places to escape their policies.

taxes are the price we pay to ensure a more civilized place to live. anarchy is tax-free but not worth the drama. fascism [where we're headed now] is a form of tyranny which is tax-free only for the topmost, tax-heavy for the rest of us].

Name one city run by Republicans where the people have it at all better.

A lot of it has to do with how well the local industries are doing.

I've heard they're proposing a steet tax for driving in Seattle. They also want to tax all food items.

Dems tax too much.
Do you think it’s fair to have income tax and sales tax?
Gas tax and millerage tax?

Do you support 100% tax? Everyone works for free ie slave labor?

GOPers are only for the wealthy, themselves, not for you and me. as I said, taxes are the price for a civilized society as opposed to anarchy, taxes pay to keep things on a level playing field and to keep the usual bullies [rapacious Richie Riches] at bay so they can't steal yet more from the rest of us. GOPers are all for corporate welfare, giving OUR money to big business and letting them call the shots for the rest of us no matter what the rest of us wants or needs. the commonwealth nations do pretty well, as does northern Europe, despite making the wealthy pay their fair share. if we got off our high horse and kicked ayn rand to the dustbin of bad history, we could accomplish a lot as a nation or at least reverse our downward spiral.

Maybe wealthy people are the good guys that risk their money to create jobs and raise standards of living.

Maybe we should honor them for their good deeds.

old southern expression: "the hell you say." honor them, BAH! :x  anybody with a lick of sense knows that jobs are created by popular demand. I could be Richie rich and make widgets that nobody wants to buy, leaving Richie rich less rich. it is "percolate up" and NEVER the mythical "trickle down." customers [the 99%] are in control here. we should honor the CUSTOMER, the CLIENT, they are always right. supply-side economics is, in the words of conservative pol GWB, "voodoo economics."

per my experience, the dems never kicked me down. only the GOP with their century-long opposition to affordable working class health care.
