We have to look at the rate of testing...and the rate of positive tests. The more we test, the more we can assess things such as mortality rate and true prevalence.

I started having symptoms a month ago. I am finally going to be tested tomorrow. And I went through ALL CHANNELS seeking to be tested.

The mortality rate among people who obtained positive results in New York City is 3.75%. This includes the over 90% who had underlying conditions.

Up until now, only people, by and large, with relatively serious symptoms have been tested.

1 in 5 (20%) who obtain a positive result in New York City are ultimately hospitalized. Most are discharged, ultimately.

Still, there are excessive deaths.

https://www.physiciansweekly.com/obesit ... -covid-19/

Professor Jean-François Delfraissy, who heads the scientific council that advises the government on the epidemic, said as many as 17 million of France’s 67 million citizens were seriously at risk from the coronavirus because of age, pre-existing illness or obesity.

“This virus is terrible, it can hit young people, in particular obese young people. Those who are overweight really need to be careful,” Delfraissy told franceinfo radio.

17/67 is 25% of the population.

"1,446,242 Total confirmed cases, world-wide" seems like a ridiculously low number for a virus with an RO of 3 or higher. Even with lockdowns. I wonder if along with a lot of asymptomatic cases a lot of people are immune to it.

Well, that's New York for you.  When you have people stacked one on top of the other instead of spread out across the landscape, you're going to have more problems with maintaining your health (not to mention health care and the bureaucracy that runs it).

The latest trends indicate that California's CoViD-19 crisis will "peak" on or near the 17th of April.  After that, predictions are that there will be a steady decline in new cases (and deaths) until September.

I just hope they're correct.

I saw April 17th given for the UK too. Along with a model prediction of 3,000 deaths per day there up to the 17th. Which I think is baloney.

I wonder about that, too.  Unfortunately, even the best data sources don't seem to have accurate counts of asymptomatic victims.

Then again, how can you count something if you don't know it's there?

I feel if we get over 25% tested...that we will get a decent idea about most aspects of this pandemic. We are still under 1% in the US, less than 2% for NY State.

Feelings are irrelevant, Kortie.

Feelings germinate ideas.

Copernicus had a “feeling,” and he went with it.

Many times, a hypothesis is engendered by “feelings.”

How about them going with the fact that 99.9% of the population are not reporting any symptoms. Lets say they find out that 80% of the world is infected with an asymptomatic virus. Then what?

Then we party!  Seriously, if everyone would be infected, yet no one would be getting sick, then there would be no more need for "Social Isolation".

Herd immunity occurs earlier, they expect it at about 2/3 (67%) of the population catching it.

What difference does immunity make if the virus is asymptomatic to 99% of the population?

What we really need is an effective treatment for the 1% that have symptoms.
