I believe in change.....but I believe in common sense, too.....I'm not going all "reactionary!" That won't happen with me!

Even as a 7-year-old, right before his assassination, I worshipped Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King.....

I don't worry about anyone individually, trends are made up of individuals though. The far-right has found a canard that resonates with a lot of boomers and some Gen-Xers. Some of them similar to you will fall for it. Not all of them will suddenly end up alt-right/paleocons/similar but some of them will.

Effectively confronting that canard is vital to reduce it's effectiveness as a pipeline.

I'm certainly NOT falling for that Far-Right crap....I ain't that stoopid!

Just because I don't believe in some of the METHODS of the "woke" crowd----doesn't mean I disagree with at least some of the ideology of the "woke" crowd. Probably most of it.

I just feel like people, these days, are searching for offense around every corner.

Or they're just speaking up over things that have been problematic for ages and earlier complaints just weren't amplified adequately to reach your ears.

I guess the wokes have been effective at portraying themselves's as fighting bullies by canceling them.

Cancel culture or hate isn't about right or left or being a troll or losing a argument. Of all things it isn't funny. Some people are simply lost in their hate. Maybe the best word for this evil is intolerance.

Cancel culture hasn't caused any posters to leave here because cancel culture is just a right wing meme. We've certainly had posters leave because they got tired of losing arguments and because intolerance was shown to their trollish methods of arguing.

If you really believe posters rage-quitting is a result of evil and hate you really have low stakes for how you define those terms.

Evil and hate are what they are. We don't get to redefine words to fit our own worldview. Cancel culture is simply a form of hate and is often but not always linked to skin color or gender or religious beliefs or sexual orientation. When cancel culture seeks to silence people because of their skin color, gender, religious beliefs or sexual orientation it is pure evil.

WP in not a cancel culture or even a woke site. A wide variety of opinions are allowed to be expressed here and censorship in minimal. I have been allowed to be continually critical of “woke” ideologies without hearing from the moderators about it never mind being banned. This is neurodiversity movement positive site yet we have members who are strongly anti ND movement who often post their opinions.

There is a bit of political correctness here in that certain words are not allowed here in any context. Me and others have been allowed to be highly critical of these language rules sans consequence.

If we don't get to redefine words to fit our worldview it would be nice if you'd cut it out.

Criticism isn't hate and it isn't cancel culture. If your opinions make you seem like a dick people won't want to have anything to do with you and no one can oblige them to continue to give you attention, company, business or affection.

As ASPartOfMe said, himself (and others) are openly critical of the idea and it doesn't lead to any sort of negative consequence as a result. It's an issue that posters debate but the forum has never actually adopted any sort of official policy that one could define as 'influenced by cancel culture'.

Yes, posters have left in the past but it's pure dishonesty to blame those incidents on cancel culture if the term cancel culture is actually intended to mean something. Of course we both already know cancel culture is just a silly meme so you might as well drop the charade and stop pretending.

Merriam-Webster defines “cancel culture” as the practice or tendency of engaging in mass canceling as a way of expressing disapproval and exerting social pressure.

Racism and bigotry are what they are. I can get you definitions of those as well if you need to understand those words better. I am redefining nothing.

So is it a silly meme when attempts are made to cancel people because of their skin color? Like for example when people are told they "ain't black" if they don't vote a certain way?

What about when women are are smeared as uneducated "handmaids" for their religious beliefs and worldviews?

You seem to want to make light of it all.

That's about as fine an example of gaslighting as you could get.

So who's quit because of cancel culture? If it's happened there must be examples. If there are no examples people should stop insisting it's happened.

So basically your proof of cancel culture is that sometimes people who you disagree with are insulting?
With arguments like that you're making my case that cancel culture doesn't actually exist better than I am.

You're right, I am making light of these dishonest claims. They're not credible, they're laughable; they're unintentional satire at its finest.

Well said. Doubling and tripling down on the hate and attacking anyone who calls them out is the norm. So is trying to make hate look like satire or something funny to justify it. It reminds me of the hate of the racist satire of Black minstrel "entertainment" from the late 19th century in the US. Hate is never funny.

That's some impressive rhetorical jujitsu you've pulled. Dismissing dishonest attempts at gaslighting are now trying to make hate looking like satire or something funny to justify it.

You make lots of big claims, why not try presenting an entire argument to support one of them?

So far all you've done is make poor attempts at insulting me for not being persuaded by your lack of an argument.

Anyways, I have to go renew my licence plate sticker. I'll be back in an hour or so.
Surprise me with an actual argument instead of just another attempt at insulting me into agreeing with you.
