No mistakes allowed, one mistake apparently branded you an irredeemable sexist. I hate to admit it but whoever started this one mistake you are canceled created an effective strategy. One mistake and your out is impossible to fight.
That unit I worked for back in 2007 had a female management team, It had a reputation of being very antagonistic toward male staff who weren't openly feminist (or their view of feminism I should say). That said, I knew that in advance before my foot in mouth incident.
So they were "woke" "cancel culture" types before those words were coined.

Or they were just manipulative.

Just a reminder: under international law, an occupying power has no right of self-defense, and those who are occupied have the right and duty to liberate themselves by any means possible.

No this is a perfect example of groupthink. For example I currently also work in a female dominated environment where there isn't any toxic culture. It just so happens back in 2007 they was this type of office culture and rather than "woke" the management were simply authoritarian. It just so happens they were female and set the norms for groupthink for the workplace.
My response to this was not blame feminism, It was an individual isolated incident. Fast forward to 2021 and some people who say racist and homophobic things and get in trouble with their employer are likely to invoke cancel culture rather than take responsibility for saying stupid stuff.
Back to the thread - McMichael is obviously hiding his racist connections but (without realising) he has cancelled the confederate culture by openly acknowledging he knows its a racist organisation, By hiding his number plate he is trying to cancel maybe decades of his own identity. I know this doesn't fit into the convention on what cancel culture is perceived to be but I have already explicitly stated I consider the concept is bunk/fiction to begin with so its wholly subjective.
I again posit that McMichael is trying to cancel his subscription to his own social identity which is a more serious example of cancelling culture than castigating stupid people for saying stuff about gays, women or blacks.

Dude, just take the L and move on, you just keep picking up the shovel and digging deeper.

Is that what you call misusing terms and then pretending you know what they mean when you obviously don't?

I know what it means to those who like to peddle in this nonsense. I am merely putting a different spin.

I think you pointed that out early and I, for one, indicated I still didn't buy it, I did try, but I just couldn't get excited about going where your brain did, so ...
You can't force other people into your mindset, no matter how creative, unique, brilliantly appropriate, or brilliantly inappropriate, you think it is. No one is interested in the angle, I'm sorry, it just is what it is. Your dedication to your position has been mildly entertaining, reminds of how my son can be, but if I was you, I'd let it go.
(sorry if I sound patronizing; I don't mean to be, but sometimes I can't let go of the mom perspective)

That's not what I was intending. Forcing people to follow one's mindset is authoritarian. I am presenting people with a pair of shoes and inviting to walk in them for a few minutes. They can take it off anytime.

Consider the shoes taken off and thrown away. Sorry.

.
All groupthink is not cancel culture but groupthink is an essential element of cancel culture. If you have everyone trying cancel different things nothing much will actually get canceled.
Would the statement “your 2007 workplace culture was a preview of cancel culture to come” work for you?

The problem I have with this concept is that for cancel culture to exist, there needs to be homogeneity in thought. For example if you look at the public humiliation of comedians, actors and politicians for material they posted (I have been reading of the resignation of NFL coach Jon Gruden) there is a perception they have been unfairly treated even by people who are in the target population apparently offended.
Dave Chappelle for example has been "supposedly" cancelled over his latest comedy special but the term is meaningless because Netflix still pay him. People supposedly cancelled in recent times like Kevin Hart, Gina Carano, Kanye West etc are still rolling in money and still getting jobs. All this amounts to is public humiliation.
