I see nothing wrong with this as long as you are happy with how the current government is governing.

I'm not happy with it, but the opposition parties also depress the hell out of me. I remember the Labour government of the 1970s (Wilson, Callaghan, Benn, Foot, etc) and it gave us 27% inflation plus an impression of general ineptitude and incompetence. Margaret Thatcher's Conservatives wouldn't normally have been electable in 1979, but they essentially won by default.

Despite all that, the Labour govt of 1974-79 was a serious, heavyweight entity compared with the people that this party presents us with today.

^ I hear you. I'd rather give someone else a try of f*****g this country up more that letting the Tories continue (although Rishi appears to be doing better than his predecessors).

An educated chicken would do better than Rishi’s predecessors.

Looks like it will be a bad night for the Tories. :)

I'm reading some very sad stories of people being turned away because they don't have the 'right' form of photo ID...

This is Twitter but I believe them:

We all voted except for my brother. Fair enough, he doesn't feel engaged to vote and that's a missed demographic. I reminded him that no one had to throw themselves under a horse for his right to vote, but some of us have a moral obligation

Even my grandad, who said he couldn't be bothered, got out on his scooter to vote, which he's not supposed to do on his own because he's poorly and it could have gone very wrong, but you can't tell him what to do.

^ The woman did linger a little longer on my passport lol and I thought it was going to be an issue for a second. I went to take it back and she said no and wanted a second look at it. It looks like me though, so maybe she was checking for a specific detail on there or something.

I suppose it's part of their due diligence, it must be a bit of extra pressure having to check IDs for the first time.

I wonder if the voter ID will disproportionately affect women, as they're far more likely to have name changes that might not be reflected on their ID.

So true. The sections of society who had to fight for their right to vote should vote IMO. I can't stand these people who say 'those women also fought for my right to choose not to vote.' That's pathetic.

It might well affect women a lot because of the name change of marriage...they will have to take their birth certificate, marriage certificate and passport/driving licence every bloody time they vote!

And what about people who can't drive and don't leave the country i.e. no driving licence or passport? They'll be disenfranchised too.
