Emergence of a Deadly Coronavirus
North Korea has consistently claimed the nation had not been infected with the coronavirus. But excuse me if I don't believe them. Since they border China and have close ties with China, since many of that nation's population has a weakened immune system because of a lack of food, the country is probably crawling with the virus.
Now the leader of that nation Kim Jung- Un is a young man of 36. But he is obese and a heavy smoker. Within the country he is a very public image which means that if the coronavirus had penetrated their borders, he is vulnerable. This is because many co-morbidities are associated with being obese and COVID-19 attacks those with co-morbidities.
On page 357 of this thread I mentioned:
Senior officials in North Korea paid tribute to the remote kingdom's founder Kim Il Sung Wednesday, but the apparent absence of current dictator Kim Jong Un raised questions about whether coronavirus played a part.
The Hermit Kingdom's most important holiday is April 15, the birthday of the country's first dictator, known as the “Day of the Sun.” It's a day that normally includes an immense military parade and synchronized public performances, sometimes involving tens of thousands.
But on Thursday, the Korean Central News Agency said only that a group of senior government, party and military officials paid tribute at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun for Kim Il Sung's 108th birthday.
There was no mention in North Korean state media if current ruler Kim Jong Un visited the mausoleum where the bodies of his grandfather and father, Kim Jong-il, are located. State media only said that floral baskets were "laid at the statues of the great leaders and mosaics picturing their smiling images."
According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, Kim hasn't skipped visiting the mausoleum during the holiday since inheriting power in 2011. State media typically reports on visits to the site the same day or following morning.
So the latest news out of North Korea, perhaps I should call it gossip, is that on 12 April, Kim Jong-Un underwent surgery for a cardiovascular procedure. So I wonder if it might be appropriate to consider the possibility that the coronavirus might have got him.
----------------------------------
Let us apply a bit of fuzzy logic. Picture the book "Alice in Wonderland" with Kim Jong-Un portraying the Queen of Hearts. The title of a just published article in Newsweek read: NORTH KOREA CONFIRMS CORONAVIRUS CASES FOR FIRST TIME AFTER KIM JONG-UN REPEATEDLY DENIED INFECTIONS. So what do you think Kim Jong-Un would say to his underlings who leaked this information if he were still alive? My guess would be - Off with their heads!
The official explanation is that he’d had heart surgery due to his excessive smoking habit plus his morbid obesity.. sounds perfectly feasible.. and he’s taken a turn for the worse ... again also perfectly feasible.
I’d suggest that he’s maybe worse than they’re letting out at the moment though ..
Was the supposed "ventilator shortage" bogus?
The Ventilator Shortage That Wasn’t
The ventilator shortages of which we were all gravely warned have not yet come to pass.
In March, one of the most feared aspects of the pandemic was the widely reported coming shortage of ventilators. One well-publicized estimate, repeated by the New York Times, the New Yorker and CNN, was that the U.S. would need roughly one million ventilators, or more than five times as many as we had. Gulp. Ventilators are expensive, they’re complex machines, and they can’t be churned out in the thousands overnight.
In the state that (as of today) has one-third of the country’s confirmed COVID-19 cases, New York governor Andrew Cuomo sounded the alarm for ventilators repeatedly. On March 27, he acknowledged “I don’t have a crystal ball” but said his state desperately needed 30,000 ventilators, maybe 40,000, but had only 12,000. When President Trump noted that Cuomo’s state had thousands of unused ventilators it hadn’t even placed yet, Cuomo admitted this was true but said he still needed more: “Yes, they’re in a stockpile because that’s where they’re supposed to be because we don’t need them yet. We need them for the apex,” Cuomo said at the time. On April 2, Cuomo predicted the state would run out of ventilators in six days “at the current burn rate.” But on April 6, Cuomo noted, “We’re ok, and we have some in reserve.”
Now New York appears to have passed the apex. Deaths, a lagging indicator, crested at 799 on April 9 and hit 606 on April 16, the lowest figure since April 6. Hospitalizations are also declining, and on April 16 also hit their lowest level since April 6. Cuomo today has so many ventilators he is giving them away: On April 15, he said he was sending 100 of them to Michigan and 50 to Maryland. On April 16, he announced he was sending 100 to New Jersey.

In a pandemic, fresh air is very good for you.
Research is showing that enclosed spaces are a dangerous place to be. In one research article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, concluded "When one is outside with air circulations or wind, the [virus] is easily dispersed and less concentrated."
In a study in China, they looked at the spread of the coronavirus in 320 towns. What they observed is that 80% of the outbreaks began in the home. 34% of the infections began in public transportation. All identified outbreaks of 3 or more cases occurred in an indoor environment which confirms that sharing indoor space is a major [coronavirus] infection risk.
So enjoy the outdoors. That is what jimmy m. is doing. During the month of quarantine, we have:
* cut down several dead trees and cut them up for firewood for next year.
* repaired our walking bridge which was damaged by flood waters.
* repaired a fallen retaining wall.
* washed my Zoom-Zoom car.
* installed a leaf deflection system in our gutters.
* chimney swept our wood stove chimney.
* replaced the batteries in the utility vehicle and the large lawnmower.
* rototilled the garden.
* hauled in tons of mulch and spread it in the flower beds.
* burned a shrub pile and roasted sausages and potatoes in the ashes.
* and I cut the grass for the first time today.
Spring is here!
Any chance of you cutting my lawn?

The lockdown was to prevent mass infection thus avoiding a ventilator crisis. We will all be exposed to the virus eventually, the objective is to prevent us all getting sick at the same time without enough ventilators for everyone or hospital beds.

Hopefully, there will be a vaccine.
I'll be first in line.

Microwaves Kill With Heat, Not Actual Microwave Radiation
Over time, researchers have learned that it is the heat, not the actual microwaves, that can disinfect an item. Normal cooking methods, like baking, frying, or microwave cooking, do kill bacteria and viruses in foods when all parts of the food are brought to a proper temperature. How high the heat needs to be varies with the type of virus or bacteria, but here are some important examples:
* The CDC shares that Influenza, or flu, viruses are killed by heat higher than 167 degrees Fahrenheit.
* The World Health Organization (WHO) says the avian influenza virus is killed at 158 degrees Fahrenheit.
* Professor Stanley Perlman, a coronavirus expert, shares that cooking meat to 150 degrees Fahrenheit will make any coronavirus in the meat inactive.
* Texas A&M University indicates a temperature of at least 140 degrees Fahrenheit will kill most bacteria, but some, like Salmonella, may need more heat.
Microwaves Do Not Disinfect Evenly
Anyone who has reheated some leftover lasagna knows that microwaves don't heat evenly. This means they don't bring all parts of an item up to the same germ-killing temperature. Some parts may be hot enough to kill germs, leaving only parts of an item disinfected.

You think it's ok for the government to force people to wear masks. That is oppressive. I also believe that the government is exaggerating the seriousness of the virus. This is a smoke screen for something and I smell a rat. Many of the statistics are probably bogus. I don't trust the fake news and the government one lick. People who perpetuate this propaganda are feeding the hysteria. You probably have good intentions and I apologize for reacting to you harshly. I just get upset when people blindly follow government propaganda like sheep.

I saw an interesting article that suggests that what media you consume is a better predictor of your views on the coronavirus than your underlying political views. So “conservatives” (by American standards) tend to be less informed about the disease and believe more falsehoods than the general population, but only because conservatives are more likely to watch Fox News. Once you control for that, political views stopping mattering so much. Conservatives who watch CNN, the American news network which tends to have a more balanced outlook, or MSNBC, which is more left-leaning, are no less well-informed than people with other views. Meanwhile, non-conservatives who watch Fox News are still badly informed.
So it’s a big mistake to try and turn this into a partisan issue. Many conservatives are well-informed and are behaving sensibly. Indeed, the conservative values of responsibility and protection of life naturally lend themselves to good behaviour in a crisis. Many conservative leaders such as Mike DeWine of Ohio have had their reputations hugely enhanced from their handling of the crisis. The issue is that Fox News specifically has made a string of serious journalistic errors in its reporting and that this has impacted their viewers, regardless of their own political views. Hopefully they don’t cost too many lives.
