The main reason for open borders despite common sense is economy n business.

NYC lawyer with coronavirus in ‘severe’ condition: Health Department

Quote:
The Manhattan lawyer hospitalized with coronavirus is in “severe condition,” the city Health Department said Tuesday evening.

The lawyer, identified by sources as Lawrence Garbuz, 50, runs a boutique law firm with his wife that also employs one of their four kids as a paralegal, according to information posted online.

The seven-lawyer practice, Lewis & Garbuz, is located across the street from Grand Central Terminal and specializes in matters including personal planning and wealth management, estate litigation, guardianships and elder law, its website says.

Garbuz was initially hospitalized Friday at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, but was transferred on Monday to NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in Upper Manhattan when his condition worsened.

He’s being treated in the Intensive Care Unit, the hospital said.

Members of coronavirus patient’s Westchester synagogue ordered to self-quarantine
Quote:
Folks who attended services at a Westchester County synagogue tied to New York’s second coronavirus case were ordered to self-quarantine on Tuesday because they may have been exposed to the deadly illness.

Those “who attended services on February 22, and a funeral and a bat mitzvah at the temple on February 23 must self-quarantine until at the very earliest March 8. Those who do not self-quarantine will be mandated to by the County Department of Health to do so,” Westchester County Executive George Latimer said in a press release about Temple Young Israel of New Rochelle.

The county will issue legal orders to enforce the quarantine if need be, spokeswoman Catherine Cioffi told The Post.

3 Jewish day schools in New York close due to coronavirus fears
Quote:
Three Jewish day schools in New York closed on Tuesday due to fears of a coronavirus outbreak.

The prominent modern Orthodox Salanter Akiba Riverdale Academy and High School, known as SAR, closed due to a “suspected case of coronavirus” in the community.

In a letter addressed to parents and faculty SAR announced that it would close “for precautionary measures.”

The Westchester Day School and the Westchester Torah Academy, both in suburban New York, also shut down.

The Westchester Day School, a modern Orthodox school north of New York City in Mamaroneck, closed although it does not have any cases of suspected coronavirus, the school’s executive director, Rachel Goldman, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

The school, which has students in pre-kindergarten through grade 8, closed “out of an abundance of caution” since there is a suspected case of the virus in one of its feeder communities. The suspected case does not have any children in the Westchester Day School, Goldman said.

The Westchester Torah Academy, in White Plains, told parents in a letter sent Tuesday morning that it would be turning buses around and sending children home.

Coronavirus patient reportedly commuted on Metro-North
Quote:
The Manhattan lawyer hospitalized with coronavirus commuted regularly from his home in New Rochelle on the Metro-North Railroad, according to a report Tuesday.

But it’s unlikely that he used the city’s subway system because his office is within walking distance of Grand Central Terminal, ABC News said, citing a source familiar with the case.

During a news conference Tuesday, MTA Chairman Pat Foye said transit officials “don’t know whether that patient traveled to New York City using public transportation or not.”

Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office said the man’s movements were “still being looked at.”

But Mayor Bill de Blasio wouldn’t discuss the matter during a City Hall news conference.

“The subway is not the issue, the train is not the issue. The issue is prolonged, consistent contact,” he said.

First coronavirus case in North Carolina linked to Seattle-area nursing home
Quote:
The first presumptive case of the novel coronavirus in North Carolina is linked to a Seattle-area nursing home facility where five residents were sick and later died, authorities in the Tar Heel state said Tuesday.

The new patient is from Wake County, home to Raleigh and 1.1 million people. North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said the person was exposed at a center in Washington where there is a Covid-19 outbreak while on a trip.

Four Life Care residents died at a hospital and one died at a residence, officials said Tuesday.
The North Carolina resident's positive test has not been confirmed by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.

Health officials said they contact the person twice a day about the person's temperature and other health issues.
Health officials are tracing the person's travel from Washington, Dr. Mandy Cohen, the state's secretary of health and human services, said. The investigation is just beginning, she said.

Wake County public health officials said the person traveled through Raleigh-Durham International Airport on February 22. The passenger "was not experiencing symptoms when they traveled through ... Based on CDC guidance, there was no identifiable risk from this case to other travelers," a state health department official said.

Cooper said North Carolinians should take the same preventative measures as for the flu, which killed 24 people in the state last week.

The World Health Organization has said that the mortality rate of Covid-19 is higher than previously thought. It was thought that it was at 2% (because that's what China told the world their numbers were, which was almost assuredly a lie). It's climbed to 3.4%. I hope it's not the case, but I think it's possible the percentage could climb even higher once there is more data to draw from that isn't compromised data from a communist totalitarian government.

I wouldn't mind contracting it were it not for the fact that you also put everyone around you at risk.

A lady in the neighbouring town came from a trip to Iran 2 or 3 days ago and was found to have the Covid. She is being treated right now.

There is another indicator that Iran is being hit significantly hard by the coronavirus.

Iran temporarily released more than 54,000 prisoners in an effort to prevent the spread of the coronavirus outbreak in the country’s overcrowded prisons, as the disease has killed dozens in the country and infected 23 members of the Iranian parliament.

It also probably means that the Iranian government is observing many infections within their prison system. Otherwise, why did they make this move.

Making the decision to release more than 54,000 prisoners also would imply that the contagion is more widespread than what the government is admitting to - IMHO.

The Iranian government has also suspended parliamentary sessions after 23 of its 290 lawmakers fell ill due to the virus.

My fear is that the world finds out that the mortality rate for Covid-19 is dramatically higher than the 3.4% it's currently tracking at. What if it ends up being 10% or more?????

Also, I will never rest at thinking it's imperative that the world find out conclusively as to whether or not this virus developed without any human manipulation or if China did manipulate this virus. It would be ridiculous human folly or a global cover up to not figure out the actual origin.

I went to town today and did a little shopping. There was a few signs that people were panicking shopping. At Krogers, the aisle that normally would be filled with toilet paper was only about 1/3 full. At Sam's Club, a big box store, their toilet paper supplies were about half normal. But Sam's Club was completely out of hand sanitizer.

So what is one to do!! ! Well the media finally came up with a good answer. MAKE YOUR OWN.

Anne Marie Helmenstine, who holds a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences, recently shared how to make homemade hand sanitizer.

The ingredients:

2/3 cup 99% rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) or ethanol
1/3 cup aloe vera gel
8-10 drops essential oil, optional (such as lavender, vanilla, peppermint, grapefruit)
Bowl and spoon
Funnel
Recycled empty liquid soap or hand sanitizer bottle

Directions:

Mix the ingredients in a bowl and stir with a spoon. Use the funnel to pour the liquid into the empty bottle.

I watch the panic response over the Covid virus from a different perspective to most people, it seems. I haven't done anything differently because of it.

Being old and immune compromised with a susceptibility to respiratory infections, (I was born with immune dysfunction and it gets weaker with age), I seem far less alarmed than others who are in robust health. Perhaps because I am used to dealing with infectious threats, and have for so long that its just what I do. In Winter, when both viral and bacterial pneumonias are the primary dangers for me, I stay home, tell visitors not to visit, take the antibiotics that I am given as a precaution to reduce any infection taking hold, and practice good hygiene, avoid all public transport (especially air travel) and report any sign of infection setting in asap (eg fever, malaise, respiratory symptoms, painful breathing, productive cough).

If someone like me can survive this long with vigilance and oversight without panicking (or dying) then maybe the obsession with the unknowns of Covid virus have been over-magnified. Obviously there are risks, and it can kill, but in contrast to previous pandemics (like the so-called Spanish Flu, which occurred before antibiotics, vaccines and antivirals were available, as they are today) I am inclined to think that the Covid panic is being inflated by fear of contagion to an extreme degree, and that there is some profiteering perhaps allied to the whipping up of extreme panic.

This is a weird year. There's all this talk about coronavirus epidemic and I got a 101-103 fever last weekend. Im 39 years old and can't remember the last time I had a proper flu. Had many normal colds, and they almost always start near my head (headache or sore throat) then slowly turn into a cough. This started immediately as an obnoxious dry cough and immediately my temperature shot up. Seems like the fever itself fed on the anxiety I was already having due to the coronavirus being in the news. Went into the doctor after miserable 2 restless nights tossing and turning and they diagnosed me with an Influenza B strain that the flu-shot apparently isn't working for this year. Weird as I'm not normally susceptible to influenza. I get mild colds and the occasional 24-hour intestinal nonsense (usually impossible to tell if that's a virus or just bad food I ate), but this flu thing is new to me. Either my immune system is weaker than normal or that virus is particularly mean this year. Thankfully tamiflu they gave me worked and I'm already recovering (hence NOT the coronovirus). I'm still being extremely cautious not to spread this one to anyone else as it can kill too.

Interesting. Maybe that's what's happened to me. I got a flu shot this year. I've had influenza twice in my life and once being the H1N1 strain that was horrible. Two nights ago I started getting a sore throat which persisted yesterday. I did go to work because I had no other symptoms. Then I got a headache at work and fatigue. I counted every minute at work just wanting to go home and lay down which I did. Then the joint and muscle aches started, occasional dry cough and occasional runny nose and chills. My fever was pretty low grade only getting up to 100.4. Restless night with almost no sleep. Sore throat and fever are now gone and I'm back to normal temp. I still have the occasional cough, sneeze and occasional runny nose, but that's it. I messaged my doctor to describe my symptoms and ask for advice and I was told to drink plenty of fluids, take vitamin C and rest. I messaged my doctor because I had a relative fly here last week from San Francisco.

China isn't a great place to live if you like open internet and freedom to speak your mind. I worry about the state of the US though. :( We're all on such toxic selfishness and greed is good mentality that it would probably just be chaos with companies jacking prices sky high. Oh, and most pharmaceuticals are manufactured in China... lol. With all the people here conspiracy theorizing and whining about vaccines to the point polio might make a comeback, idiots are bound to be uncooperative if s**t truly hits the fan. Communist totalitarian governments are bad, but so are dumb liberal hyper-capitalist governments that will most likely devolve into dumb fascism should an emergency that requires mass cooperation occur.

So, I guess containment can still be the goal, until warm weather arrives in May. It's just that if we go down the route of containment, then we shouldn't be comparing COVID-19 to flu. We don't do containment for flu.

So it is looking like you are correct about the effect of warm weather. If warm weather does cause a reduction in the virus, then it's the southern hemisphere could become a hotbed with it returning in the northern hemisphere next winter.

But what if temperature was not the primary variable controlling infection rates? What if the real variable responsible for slowing down the transmission of both the normal flu and also COVID-19 was humidity? That is the direction that the latest science is pointing to.

In winter months in cold climates, the humidity levels outside drop substantially. Heating homes in these cold environments drops the levels even further. Springtime comes and the humidity levels return back to normal.

The climate of Wuhan is temperate, with relatively cold winters and hot, muggy, and rainy summers. The summer heat is intense and annoying, while in winter, cold air can stagnate on the ground.

I don't know. I've had a 100 degree fever from a normal cold when I don't rest. Sometimes a flu can start as a sore throat like a cold but this one started as an annoying dry cough. I woke up Saturday morning hacking. At first it was just really annoying, but after a while it hurt to cough, then I started shivering like crazy and couldn't get warm no matter how many blankets I put on. Luckily it started on a Saturday so I was already home and didn't try to push myself through symptoms. I was around 101 the first time I checked Saturday afternoon, but then after I went to bed I couldn't sleep long. I kept waking up and having to move because something hurt, then I got this fever-earworm phenomenon where you can't really sleep or think about anything concrete but a certain vocal phrase or "wordless thought" will repeat over and over again. I had a bottle of acetaminophen but I was stupid and didn't have it by my bedside. I just didn't have the power to go downstairs and get it. My highest reading was something like 102.6. Next morning I was reading things on the internet saying 103 fever could mean a bacterial complication coming on, so I decided to go to urgent care. Now two days later the fever is gone and all I have is a runny nose and painless juicy cough. Still being careful not to spread germs, but I'm comfortable again at last. Tamiflu worked wonders on this virus for me. Don't know if it's effective on others though.

Yes, it sounds like you had an influenza, with the weakness and all. When I had the H1N1 strain I was so weakened I couldn't lift my arms and I thought to myself that I could understand how an elderly person could die from the disease. I think I just have a cold that came on hard but has gotten better pretty quickly.
