The more common assumption is that the oligarchs are simply using the promise of renewing the loans as leverage to obtain unidentified favors. There certainly were plenty of times in Trump's presidency when he seemed to turn a blind eye to Russian actions, so maybe that was the reason. Just speculation; we don't know. But I don't think the current investigation is covering those bases. The current investigation is "curious" who might have been able to access the documents while they were improperly stored, but seems to be prioritizing a document security case and/or obstruction case, not fishing for Mueller investigation stuff.

What I'm taking out of that is "assumption" and "speculation" and concluding poppycock.

I'm not directing that at you personally, I know you didn't invent this stuff.

I know, I'm just stating the most likely speculation. The man does seem to be beholding to someone, but that is speculation, too. We have no idea who or why.

He knows how to cover his tracks.

I don't see how it can be said that he knows ho to cover his tracks, and yet also be said that he was too incompetent to cover his tracks regarding the secret documents he planned to sell to the Russian mafia. People have asked here and elsewhere why he didn't just make copies and the answer is he's too stupid, or too full of himself or whatever to have taken such a simple preventative measure. Yet at the same time it's said the reason why he's never been nailed for anything so far, is because he's so good at covering his tracks.

This really does remind me of some of the more paranoid post 9/11 discourse, where George W Bush was somehow both capable of having engineered the attacks and successfully covered it up, and the idiot a village in Texas was missing, with no disconnect at all between those positions.

For the record, *I* have never said he is stupid. But like most people he has his strengths and his blind spots, and they aren't always predictable. What he never seemed willing to adapt to were the formalities of governing, and it is the formalities of governing that are at the heart of the documents situation. He is also a strong believer in manifestation, that if you claim something is so often enough, it will be so, and that seems to be support the idea he felt the documents were his personal property, as you and I talked about, despite repeatedly being informed otherwise.

He's well practiced in some maneuvers because they are common in business. I've been a business advisor long enough to have a good idea what some of those might be. He'll naturally be less practiced at political maneuvers, but his instincts at reading the room got him all the way to the top elected office, a long shot that in some ways still amazes me but I've come to understand a bit more.

My take on him isn't really like anyone else here's. I've had reason to follow his persona and career since the early 1990s, and I have some inside information on him from one of his deals. I also do a lot of work with the real estate industry, and I know a lot about the way people in it operate.

The FBI has apparently already started leaking data about what they found, and it has nothing to do with "Nuclear documents". But rather it's information on French president Macron’s sex life.

I'm sure there's a lot of stuff marked top secret that isn't the lest bit useful in the world of espionage. Also top secret data on paper quickly becomes outdated. Like Al-Qaeda troop movements in a certain time and place. There's been lots of formerly top secret data that's been made public, and most of it is pretty boring. A 600 page study on Russian eating habits and the like.
