My understanding its when a country decides to deliberately allow it's economy to be destroyed (domestic means of production and external trade) in order to ensure a few people don't get exposed to COVID-19 and overburden the hospital system. Very noble, except it will take the aforementioned country maybe a decade to rebuild and in the meantime a generation of workers (perhaps millions) will be facing ruin.

Only three cases here in my county.I think that will change because they are opening the Buffalo National river this weekend for day use only. The town is always packed in tourist season, so I will not be going to town on the weekends now.

The number of people dying from the coronavirus pandemic in Mexico is five times higher than official government figures, according to health department insiders.

It's all about balancing things off to minimize damage in both areas - a delicate job requiring a lot of flexibility, to adapt to ever-changing global and local situation.
In the US, a very bad thing happened that COVID response became another issue of partizanship, with two sides launching their propaganda for "only this" or "only that" way.

The downright shameful thing I've witnessed firsthand multiple times in my life: People who during their working careers voted religiously for "tax and spenders" (as my Dad would always say) and then up and move to Florida, register as Florida residents but keep a summer home here. They do this because Florida has no state income tax. The hypocrites are tax dodgers who were part of the very problem by voting in "tax and spenders" for years, screwing the rest of us in the process. I have little respect for them. I'll go back on topic now.

i would not live in florida nor live among those sell-outs if it were the last place on earth.

The damage will be with us for at least 10 yrs,,,maybe longer, the media is yet to really focus on the long term damage

Predicting future is extremely difficult, the more distant future, the harder it is. Currently, we can only try to guess what will September look like.
I'm glad media don't go into even wilder speculations about next decades. They are very likely to be extremely dramatic and almost completely wrong.

Even today, it can be quite difficult to predict the weather three days from now.

We predicted, around the time of the Moon missions, that we would land on Mars around 1985.

I doubt, in 1985, that we could conceive that we would use a phone to pay bills or deposit checks in banking accounts.

jules verne predicted fax machines back in 1863, said they'd be invented in the 1960s. this, in his book "paris in the 20th century."

Of course, there are many examples of realization of science fiction notions.

But Magz makes an excellent point when she says one shouldn’t go by projections of what could occur 15 years down the road.

Take into account, Cyberdad talked about media focusing on long-term damage.
Our current media make apocalyptic scenarios out of much less problematic issues.
I don't want them to focus on what will happen in next 20 years because of COVID. They will blow some problems to gargantuan sizes, neglect some other problems (choosing by political slant of particular media) and draw a picture of an inevitable apocalypse that inevitably won't come true.
No, thank you.

Wisconsin bars packed with patrons almost immediately after court strikes down stay-at-home order

Quote:
Almost immediately after the Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down Governor Tony Evers' stay-at-home order on Wednesday, bars in the state opened their doors — and patrons did not hold back. Video from one packed bar in Platteville has gone viral online.

The video from Nick's Bar shows patrons packed together, dancing and banging on the bar top. The video received nearly 60,000 views on Twitter before the tweet was deleted. And Nick's is not the only Wisconsin establishment to receive a flood of visitors.

CBS Milwaukee affiliate WDJT was at Buzzard's Nest in West Allis, which was filled with people who were eager to get out of the house after more than a month of isolation.

The state's "safer at home" order was set to expire May 26, but Republicans in the state legislature argued that Health Secretary-designee Andrea Palm abused her powers when she issued the extended order in April.

In a 4-3 decision, the state's highest court said the order should have been issued as a rule, which would have required working with the legislature. It is the first time a state supreme court has struck down emergency orders issued by a governor's office due to the coronavirus pandemic.

After the court ruling, Buzzard's Nest owner Larry Prior told WDJT he called the city to make sure he could reopen, and was informed it was OK.

While the statewide "safer at home" order is no longer in affect, Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's office said in a statement that the city's public health order remains in place, "including all provisions on public gatherings, restaurants and bar operations," WDJT reports.

To be fair, you don't usually get this kind of language from actual scientists (though sometimes you do) — you get it from political thugs seeking to control the population.

Perhaps he is an Aspie who is masking, or copying those who use the same sort of language.

As for him knowing to to use that kind of language, many Aspies have difficulty recognizing what is socially inappropriate behavior. Just like some Aspies can't recognize faces, even those of close relatives, some Aspies have difficulty categorizing behavior as appropriate or inappropriate.

Aspies often try to navigate the world using rule based systems. They observe and come up with rules to guide their behavior. But, social interactions aren't always based on rules. And what do you do when the people who you look up don't seem to follow the rules?
