Be careful with that argument. It can be applied to humans who are severely handicapped or injured. You really don't want to go
there, do you?
Living things are living things. There should always be respect from that fact alone.
It is in weighing the respect against all the practical needs of survival and the reality of the circle of life that the debate lies.
We are in a place as a society where our survival needs are sufficiently met for us to assign compassion and restraint to the creatures we utilize in the food and supply chain. At minimum, we can all recognize that and make purchase decisions accordingly. The old fashioned, vote with your wallet thing.
