she's famous for being infamous, like paris hilton.

try googling her name and see what comes up. it's not infamy, but rather porn.

yes, teach. but in the same google search you'll also [eventually] find ms. hilton in the porn category also. and porn in this country counts as infamy.

are you saying that posters on this thread are not beautiful, sexy or experienced?

chances are, not AS beautiful, sexy, experienced or alpha.

we could be all of those things, just not as experienced. that was a very low comment, by the way.

whatever.

i could very easily insult you by attributing your opinions to your personal situation, but i didn't and i won't. your response was quite dismissive. maybe you didn't expect i would notice the veiled insult.

she is not famous for being a porn actress, so you are stretching your argument. and if she was invited to a school to read to the kids, i'd express my opinion of that too. in no way do i intend to imply that Paris Hilton would be a good choice instaed of Sasha Grey.

don't be silly. you are misattributing my feelings as a teacher with my feelings as an individual. i have never said i am anti-porn in any way, but i simply understand that certain standards are expected to be upheld in our schools.

it's a compromise instead of just removing it. those little black bars just didn't cover enough.

Oh you've gotta be friggin' kidding me? A 60's anti-porn propaganda video is too much for WP? That's almost as hilarious as the video itself

But come on, the video shows nothing, it's a guy basically promoting porn then saying it's BAD AND YOU SHOULD NOT LIKE IT. It's not enough to remove anything over, surely?

Censoring a video about censorship because it's too explicit. Only on WP, folks!

all i had to do was scroll partway through it before i saw nudity. the black bars were so small that it was a bit of a ridiculous token effort.

if you want to start a thread about WP censorship, feel free to do so (i'd recommend the WP.net forum). but derailing this thread further isn't necessary.

Oh there's far too much censorship on this place. I agree with Boo when he said this place is becoming "IranPlanet.net".

I'll stop derailing now in case a mod decides to split my posts into a separate thread to make me look bad again

Ironically for someone who is supposedly anti-Muslim I've come to respect him far more than I used to - I don't always agree with him but I think we share a common enemy (one that he knows much more about than I!). And he's right about the authoritarian trend here.

i respect teachers, so i truly don't know what "veiled insult" you are referring to. i said "whatever  " as a reflection of that, not to disrespect you, teach. "whatever" is synonymous with "ok, you may be right" said in resignation, and nothing more.

stay on topic or i'm removing your posts, Tequila and Asp-Z. i already gave you an idea for what you can do if you have problems with the moderation. another idea is to take it up with another moderator. don't ruin the discussion because of your own issues on the site please.

i misunderstood your "whatever". i felt like it was a veiled insult when you were implying that any dissenters to the porn star in the classroom were jealous because of inferior physical appearance.

do you honestly think they just have some person come into the classroom and don't even introduce her to the kids?
I'm pretty sure there were "special guests" that read to classes occasional back when I was a small child. I don't remember a single one of them. If one happened to be a former porn-star, I would have no idea unless my parents said anything about it.

no, she is being touted as someone more important than any old nice, presentable, and personable volunteer. she was intentionally brought in as a special guest, which is different than having a random person come in and read. she is only famous for the porn, not for the "acting" she did after that, so she is kind of irrelevant as any sort of special guest.

I don't watch porn yet I have seen one of her movies. She was actually the star of a Steven Soderbergh movie and he's a pretty respectable director. Oceans Eleven, Oceans Twelve, Syriana, Sex Lies and Videotape etc. etc. etc. He has a long and excellent resume and is one of my favorite directors so I just automatically rent any movie I know he has directed. This is how I saw a Sasha Gray movie. She was the star of Girlfriend Experience by him. She played a prostitute and was not a very good actress. Disappointed, I went to IMDB to find out why Steven Soderbergh had hired a terrible actress to star in his movie. That's when I found out she was a porn star.

All this is to say that I can understand how this happened. Probably somebody heard she was the star of a Steven Soderbergh movie (and she was!) and to that person, that was her fame. Of course none of those kids could see that movie since it's a hard R but I strongly suspect that whoever made this decision hadn't seen it either. They were probably thinking of his very famous Oceans movies and made some assumptions. They couldn't get Julia Roberts (who starred in his Oceans movies) but they got this other actress who starred in one of his movies. And then people just got starstruck by the concept of having somebody who was the star of a Steven Soderbergh movie and never investigated deeper than that,
