LOL...I don't like the smell of gauze, would feel claustrophobic in a beehive house, and I'm a registered Independent.

It just seems like that Kanye West guy is too much into his celebrity.

I'm not really into Trump myself. He has that celebrity syndrome, too.

I know he does not follow social conventions and is "rude" but "definitley on the autism spectrum"? Celebrities are often intentionally "outragous". It is part of the job description these days. See Donald Trump.

I have suspicions about the late Amy Winehouse because her lack of social conventions were usually described as geniune. She was often described as not knowing or understading that people adored her and she was too trusting.

This notwithstanding the fact that the legal system has cleared the accused officers in several cases. In an open letter to the police, Obama said, “We have your backs.” Well, too late. The politics of the democrats on the police has been set. Scapegoating cops to produce votes can only lead to a nation with its flags permanently flown at half-mast.

To me, the most important issue of this election will be the SCOTUS vacancies. With Scalia’s death, and Gingburg’s imminent retirement, there will be possibly 3 selections within the next 4 years, so the next president could stack the deck. I may not admire Trump but he listed no enemies of the Second Amendment, whereas Hillary names only enemies of the 2A. This issue alone should be enough to propel him into the White House.

Criticizing police killings isn't anti-cop. And being cleared of anything illegal doesn't make it right, as the opposition will point out in relation to Clinton's e-mail server.

Impressions so far:

ALL networks, including C-span, have piped in crowd noise and canned applause, which means it's not the networks or C-span, it's coming from the DNC feed itself. Disappointing.

Just like with the RNC, the networks keep cutting off the "little people" speakers, who are often the most interesting. Yesterday it was the legal and illegal immigrants. I had to jump around to find a live feed to watch them. I did not like the way that people kept not being clear about the distinction between legal and illegal immigrant or the circumstances that would lead them to choose to immigrant illegally. It would be helpful to both sides of the argument if they had.

With the booing and chanting- what did they expect Sanders to do? Could it be that a good number of these Sanders supporters haven't been watching the news for years and weren't familiar with him before this movement? Of course he conceded and of course he is supporting Clinton. He follows the rules and is a nice guy. That's his thing. He not all of a sudden going to say scr*w the rules I'm going to do something else because you guys want me instead of this other person.

I also think they have been making a mistake by running all the jokey Trump ads throughout the convention. I think it's taking away from their message in a couple of ways. For one, it's continually making the people there think about Trump instead of the democratic platform and Clinton/Kaine. For another, continued references to offensive things he's said and done desensitizes everyone to them. So then there is nothing else to dig up on him and when he drops any new gaffs you're like, oh, well, whatever. Whereas if something else said something terrible (ahem, Rubio, who started the "small hands" thing) everyone would be aghast.

I expect there should be a more respectful tone tonight, since it's Bill Clinton instead of Bernie.

Lol, thank you! I've been ill with complications from my neurological disease, which is why I've been less active on WP lately. I thought I'd fish out my laptop and contribute to the world today!

Felt like I was watching pro-wrestling with the piped in cheers from the crowds, SAD! Clinton/Kaine ticket boo'd all night at the DNC! What disaster!

If Trump gets even 20% of Bernie supporters then this election is over with!

I really can't see that happening, to be honest.

Unless Bernie supporters are truly ignorant, like those McCarthy supporters you mentioned.

just as many or more will vote for Gary Johnson or Jill Stein so in a way it is even worse

I expect Trump will be the president before we get the results from California, he is going to win Florida + the Midwest at least

He'll win Indiana, Wisconsin. I doubt he will win Illinois or Ohio. Forget about Michigan. Pennsylvania might be a toss-up--depends on the Philly and Pittsburgh Democratic turnout.

He just might not win Florida, either, because of the Hispanic vote----both liberal and conservative. He offends both sides.

The way I see it is that there is a fundamental difference in what the two platforms see as "the problem."

The republicans are saying that the US is falling from a high position of wealth and security and that needs to be fixed.

The democrats are saying that the US is needs diversity inclusion and aggressive social development.

I can see either platform working and doing a lot of good. I also see issues with both platforms. I don't see much talk about social programs in the republican party. Trump says that he will "replace" Obamacare and "take care" of poor and disabled people, but these plans aren't too fleshed out. Some people can't or won't work and they can't just be left out in the cold. Plus the emerging race war and identity politics seriously need to be dealt with and I haven't heard a plan. People won't just get over it, as much as many people would like them to. Also, he keeps talking about the media being biased, and there is some heavy censoring that everyone in the world has noticed. Is there any kind of plan to address this? Doesn't seem to be. Wouldn't it be easy to simply create a new network? Put reporters from both sides on it?

What the democrats are saying with the higher minimum wage and whatnot would help a lot of people immediately, but would all these people still have to work at Walmart and McDonalds? What kind of jobs would they have? Clinton hasn't been too clear on trade, infrastructure and manufacturing. These are easy areas for development that would help a lot of people. It's also troubling that Clinton's sense of dealing with people has lead to some missteps in foreign policy. If she would give some ideas toward who she would put in charge of this kind of thing that would help. What will Bill be doing? I hope he'll say tonight. It's stupid to think he'll be doing nothing. He's a former president, so officially or not, he'll be directing something.

Polls are showing Trump with a good chance in all of those places, the rust belt was always going to be ripe for Trump's message and Hillary has made the added gaffe she made about putting the coal mines of business and coal miners out of the job that will hurt her dearly. If Trump wins Wisconsin then Trump is winning the election, Wisconsin has been real bellwether and one of the most divided places in the country as far of politics go, poll show him the furthest down in that state among the states we're talking about for what it is worth. Hillary is the candidate as Wall Street, she is candidate of NAFTA, she is the candidate of TPP, this is not going to play!

People try to talk about this structural disadvantage against Trump when there is a clear path to victory

Nate Silver had Trump winning at 57% of something yesterday

Always remember: ELECTORAL VOTE.

Even if Trump happens to win the Popular Vote, that won't win him the election. He has to get 270 or so ELECTORAL VOTES in order to win.

This election could very well depend upon Democratic voter turnout in the states with the largest electoral votes.

But I still think Trump won't do well in all the states with the highest electoral votes.

The election is still far away. In actuality, I cannot predict a winner at this point. Too many variables. Too many opportunities for both to screw up majorly.
