Yeah, yeah.....of course the Democrats used to hold military parades. Of course they even had them under Clinton.

The United States is a place where there's lots of military parades....but never are they as grandiose as those which used to occur in the USSR on May Day.

It's France's Bastille Day that's the model.

It's like Trump sees the bastille day parade, says that's awesome we should have a parade like that, and everyone goes batshit. OMG! We're not the Soviet Union! OMG do you know how much that will cost? Whaaaaa!!

That was about revolt against the oppressive reign of the oligarchy and monarchy, as I recall, symbolised by the storming of the Bastille. Some of my ancestors escaped to other countries, some died on the guillotine. The people of France were starving, and the funding of the American revolution was one of the last straws.

Doesn't matter. The complaint is being ostentatious and taxpayer money being wasted. France should be harshly admonished it seems.

It might depend upon the occasion for the parade.....

I'm not really against military parades, per se.

I wish our ancestors were the type of people who would have been content to join up with Canada.

That wouldn't have been possible under the circumstances, most likely.

The British (i.e., the British nation) were hated that much in the days when union with Canada was possible.

The Bastille Day parades celebrate Liberty, Equality and Fraternity. I am not convinced that it is celebrations of this which POTUS has in mind. He perhaps wants to flaunt military power, more in line with the North Korean type of parade.

He promised to do something for veterans prior to election. How is that coming along? Wouldn't the money perhaps be better directed to that?

^^^ IOW I meant the types of moderate people who wouldn't do the whole puritan/salem/amuuurican thing they did, who wouldn't make war with the mother country. I would be happier if these silly parades were all on the private dime rather than the public having to be paying for it and the overworked GIs being at least paid extra and not being pressganged into the damned things.

He ain't doing crap for veterans.

Veterans are probably offended with him, anyway. Because of his remarks pertaining to John McCain being a prisoner of war.

Trump said, in essence, that McCain "shouldn't have been caught."

America was actually better than Canada back then, given that Canada was a part of the British Empire at the time.

Fun Facts About Bald Eagles:

- Bald eagles were nearly killed off by DDT at one time. Bald eagles were saved when environmentalists banned the substance.

https://www.fws.gov/midwest/eagle/recovery/biologue.html

- Ben Franklin wanted the national bird of America to be the turkey because Bald Eagles like to steal food from other birds.

"For my own part. I wish the bald eagle had not been chosen the representative of our country. He is a bird of bad moral character. He does not get his living honestly ... besides he is a rank coward: The little king bird not bigger than a sparrow attacks him boldly and drives him out of the district."
- Ben Franklin

- Bald eagles aren't very patriotic since they migrate to Canada during the summer.
