I'm not talking about big business. Or conservation areas. I'm talking about perposed controls on individuals. What they're not allowed to say, think, do, eat or drink. There's an article posted here saying that unless we eat a certain way the planet will be destroyed.

Hold on there pal. Compare a diet high in livestock to one that emphasizes vegetables and it's a fact that the latter is better for both the environment and our own bodies. The government can encourage eating more vegetables without collapsing into a 1984 dystopia. They can make posters, buy ads on tv, institute nutrition education programs in schools, etc.

Okay, but to the point of claiming the earth will be destroyed if people's eating habits aren't controlled?

It's bigger than personal habits, it's about how we accommodate modern society on a world of limited resources. It's about land use and food production. It only works now because most of the world's people are poor and eat little meat. As people grow more affluent, that is going to change. How important is a sustainable society to you?

That depends whether circumstances are actually that dire, or if it's a ruse to implement global martial law. The same way the Roman Catholic church used hell to frighten people into submission. What's funny is I feel like an atheist talking to die-hard religious people. Especially the way I get called a denier and an unbeliever.

If you get a chance, listen to this song by Phil Ochs. He summarized what "liberal" has come to mean among a contingency of white Americans. And this was recorded 50 years ago, no less:

Yes, because it's clearly not true. Inequality is the law of nature. Some people are better than others. People are not homogeneous. They have different abilities, handicaps, and desires.
People have equal and unalienable rights under the Law, that among these rights are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. To secure these rights, a just government is instituted by the people being governed, and deriving its authority solely powers by and from the direct consent of the governed. Other rights include free speech, free press, free religious expression, the bearing of arms, freedom from self-incrimination, freedom from unlawful and unnecessary search and seizure, et cetera...
Degenerate, "Enlightenment" nonsense. And, yes, Jefferson was certainly a liberal for the day. He was even a supporter of the Jacobins. Rights are not natural. They are usually earned in some way and come about by custom. Each society has its own set of rights.
We all know that the Enlightenment turned the world away from Feudalism, the Divine Right of Kings, and strictly-defined class divisions.

Some people just can't accept the fact that they are no better than the least among us. It really is true that when you've grown accustomed to privilege, the concepts of freedom, equality, and fellowship for all people feel like threats.

You don't need to be afraid.

"Should", "can", and "will" are all different things

Luck, health, personality, iq

For example, some five year olds drop.dead of cancer. Some eightteen year olds get shot with guns. Some children are homeless. That is not their fault. That is also not "discrimination"

Even "before the law", not everyone is equal

For example, Brock Turner got six months jail for rape conviction

Other defendants, same conviction, 23 years jail

Some people get framed for felonies and sent to jail

People with more money can spend it on expensive lawyer and post bail

Besides, children with parents that earn more $$, have more opportunities

This is "capitalism", not "discrimination".

These inequalities are hardly justifiable, especially in a free society.
Gee, I thought the selling point of capitalism was that it promoted equality and freedom.

There's a lot of false dichotomising going on in this thread.

Not all liberals are cis-hating SJW vegans.

Not all conservatives are card-carrying white nationalists.

certain personality types not only are down on caring for anybody but themselves, but are offended at the people who do care for others.

I live in Pensacola which is kind of a homeless-friendly city. Must be because it's a military town with a lot of veterans?

the military mindset tends to be quite allergic to public and private displays of what it considers any kind of weakness. very cold-blooded and ableist if you ask me.

Yeah but I've noticed many former military men and women often look out for each other. Kind of like how elderly people do.

So caring about the rights of other people is stupid?
