Obviously, most people would find that absurd—but there are those who would be desperate enough to try ANYTHING to effect that “cure.”

Trump MUST set a better example.

it sounded to me that he was just asking what was possible

Any rational/objective person, who saw the entire video clip, would agree.
The problem is, however, some not too bright people might try it because they heard it from "The Don".

It was mentioned, on the media here in Oz, that there has been a spike is poisons over in America, since the media report.
This came from a lefty, but it could still be accurate.
Time will tell.

Regardless of the poisoning being related to what was said,
Most rational people would have raised an eyebrow, as I did when Trump "over-involved" himself with medical speculation.

Once again, I think this sort of behaviour suggests Trump has "Illusory Superiority".
It also suggests he has a political "Tin Ear".

In some ways, the Big Orange Teddy Bear is cute.
But not in this particular situation.

Least of all, people supporting Joe Biden, with his own issues.

The expression:

Jumps to mind. 8O

Just building on this - responsible leaders do not openly ask questions of their advisors. They do so behind closed doors. They then state their informed views in public. This is because, as eg president, their views actually matter and are given a lot of credibility.

Another way of looking at it - imagine if, in the middle of a press conference, a leader openly mused about whether he should declare war on a country. That would probably be taken as a threat and increase the likelihood of war.

Or imagine if he mused about a company who had privately informed the government that they were in financial difficulty. What would that do to their investors and employees?

Agreed.

He is not a "professional" politician,
And it shows.

But then again,
He is in the Presidency, now, because he isn't part of the political aristocracy.

How can any serious person over the age of about 3 consider the ingestion or injection of cleaning products into the body to be anything other than an act of poisoning?

Like the people who eat Tide Pods?

Bleach cures for autism?

Man drinks fishbowl cleaner (chloroquine) and dies

He confused the toxic chloroquine with COVID treatment drug hydroxychloroquine.

i feel sorry for them just the same, it is mightily hard to live life when one is stupid. i am reminded of those poor solar eclipse viewers who were blinded because they thought as long as they rubbed sun block on their eyes, that they could stare right at the sun.

i don't think he had cleaning products in mind. alcohol and peroxide are disinfectants. probably not that he was thinking of those, just some phantom non toxic disinfectant type thingy. i agree it's not something he should've asked in front of cameras

That type of scenario reminds me of this incident during the Cold War:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_begin_ ... ve_minutes

It was not broadcast live, but did get replayed later on. President Reagan did take some heat for that joke.

THIS! They were stupid questions.. beyond stupid; absolutely MORONIC questions.

@liam ummmm, yes, he was talking about disinfectants as in cleaning products used on hard surfaces. In the breath before he mentioned how he’d learned that disinfectants kill it in just a minute, so why can’t we look into getting disinfectants inside the body to do sort of a cleaning of the lungs.. it was exactly household cleaners he was referencing and that’s precisely why it was so ridiculously stupid and everyone is ripping him to shreds for it. Everyone knows that ingesting, never mind injecting, cleaners is what people do when they’re trying to kill themselves and thus Not a viable medical treatment. trump is literally so stupid he didn’t seem to realize that and opted to take a moment to tell everyone he’s smart by saying he has a pretty good *points to head*

Moron in chief! That’s why he’s getting the backlash about this that he is and why he’s “voluntarily,” decided he’s not interested in participating in the press briefing anymore for now - because the more he talks, the worse his pole numbers.. because even his supporters are starting to pick up on how dangerously stupid he sounds.
