To think that anyone, especially a public figure, should be silenced on a whim is very troubling.
Like all WP members Trump posted subject to certain site rules and like WP, an egregious transgression of those rules will result in a ban. There is no "whim" involved.
That he was allowed to post what he did, and for so long, gaining little more than a Twitter label pointing out that what he posted was disputed (an oh-so-polite version of "he's lying, as usual"), is something of a miracle of permissiveness in itself, almost like Twitter was hanging on to the bitter end of letting him post because after all, he
is the president.
But this time he went too far. Lives were lost and the political establishment was attacked in the most egregious and violent manner imaginable
as a result of his pushing, and on the back of the most brazen of
lies about the election - which he also pushed, relentlessly.
That's why he was banned.
