Just a small technicality, but i think a salient point to consider when debating who daddy63 is attempting to defend.

That Catholic priests turn out to pedophiles has nothing to with Catholicism being any more, or less repressed, than other sects, or religions, about sex. Its not the rank and file parishoners who become pedos. Its just their priests.

Its (presumably) because of the job requirement of being a priest. You have to be celibate. You cant have sex your whole life. Therefore it attracts applicants who are into a kind of sex that is forbidden in the first place, and tends to repel job applicates who are into normal hetero (or even gay) sexual relations between adults. Or thats my theory.

Considering abuse of minors isn't an issue limited to the Catholic church I'd suggest it may largely just be that fields that grant power tend to attract those who desire to have power and those who desire to have power typically desire to use it to their own benefit.

I'd also be curious to see if priests who offend against children are more likely to be primarily interested in children vs. other child sex offenders. If they're more likely than average your explanation would seem reasonable, if they're less likely it would suggest that they're abusing who's available and vulnerable but that specific interest in that cohort isn't a motivator.

This high repression of natural desires when one's sexuality is still under development increases risk of developing various disorders, pedophilia being the most dangerous of relatively common ones. He points out that men who enter seminaries at older age, with already developed sexuality, are at much lower risk of such disorders.

Nothing has been fabricated:
- it is a fact he murdered several people, therefore he is a mass murderer
- you are attempting to defend a mass murderer claiming bigotry

I believe you should rethink your concept of "bigoted slur" if stating facts - even if irrelevant, what if someone commented the color of his car? - about a murderer gets interpreted that way.
