The guy who was arrested----has a considerable criminal record. Multiple violent felonies.

And he had hit somebody with a car recently. Bad habits don't seem to die.....

In looking at what he is charged with within the November 5th case, where he did hit somebody with a car. I would have to say that $1,000 bail is miniscule. With his record, and the violence of what occurred in that case, a NYC judge would have imposed a bail much larger than $1,000.

This guy is a career criminal----and not really a nice guy at all.

I doubt we will see him for a long time in society after his trial, but we still don't know the full story.
We are getting close to the threshold of hate, however.
Patience.

Here in NYC, they sometimes release defendants outright with those sorts of charges.

New York State passed a law getting rid of most cash bail because it was believed to be racist. After a backlash due to highly publicized incidents of released people committing crimes reforms were made to the reforms law. Still the law is believed to be a major or the major factor in the in the Republican Red wave here on Long Island. The Republicans made it their main issue.

Ah, yes, I have heard that argument, and data does back the argument up, but I think we need a better answer than eliminating bail.

I think a full investigation and trial will be needed before we can know what his motive. It could be as simple as him being an angry person blaming nearly everyone, or enjoying making a big impact. But he is career criminal and I would be reluctant to find a broader message than "bad guy." There are rumblings about groups he may support but, again, even if he does, he isn't representative of the groups and he's clearly a "bad guy."

All that assuming he truly is the assailant. Still innocent until proven guilty.

Cyber, some terms seem to mostly be used against women and, thus, really come across as sexist. "Ugly" is not where people default when describing abhorrent men; it seems to be uniquely used with women. Stick to the facts and avoid slurs, then you are less likely to upset your fellow members.

Thompson said Brooks was involved in a domestic disturbance with another person just prior to driving his SUV through the parade Sunday afternoon. Police were not able to respond to the initial call about the domestic incident because they had to respond to the parade so quickly after receiving the call, the chief said.

Police stressed there was no police pursuit leading up to the incident.

This makes it sound like it wasn't a "planned"\intended action on his part... For what little difference that makes.

Quote:
In a statement, the Milwaukee DA's office now says it should not have recommended such a low bail for Brooks and have launched an internal review into the decision.

"The State's bail recommendation in this case was inappropriately low in light of the nature of the recent charges and the pending charges against Mr. Brooks," the office's statement said. "The bail recommendation in this case is not consistent with the approach of the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office toward matters involving violent crime, nor was it consistent with the risk assessment of the defendant prior to setting of bail."

Disappointing that it takes something like this to occur before conducting a review, rather than have internal monitoring\guidelines in place to identify potential issues in advance (such as overly harsh or leniant prosecutors (regarding bail amounts) being identified and dealt with, or ensuring a supervisor\manager signs off on appropriate bail range in advance of case coming to court) - This won't make much difference if a judge sets an amount without consultation, but would alow for credible objections at the time to low amounts, as well as ensuring the prosecutor doesn't suggest an inappropriate amount\ensures comparable bail amounts for similar offences.

Off Topic
Given the state has previously set a bail amount of $2 million for the killing of 2, injury of one and "endangering" 2, it will be interesting to see what bail amount (if any) is set in this case.

There won’t be any bail in this case. Automatic remand.

Ok how about Marjorie Taylor Greene and her counterpart Lauren Boebert are the polar opposite of beautiful, kind decent human beings?

Would you describe your best male friend as a "beautiful" human being?

Can we just keep words associated with physical appearance, servitude, or sexual morality out of it all entirely? Next time, pretend you are describing Ted Cruz when deciding on word choice.

I think you missed the part where I said "ugly" pertained to her on the "inside" not her physical appearance but this argument is going nowhere so let's drop it.

Daryl Brooks has been charged in a non-terror related attack on the crowd in Christmas parade in Waukesha. Around Christmas time there is a heightened vigilance for terror attacks so its understandable the police wanted to investigate the terror link first.

Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson read out the names at a press conference on Monday afternoon: Virginia Sorenson, 79; LeAnna Owen, 71; Tamara Durand, 52; Jane Kulich, 52; and Wilhelm Hospel, 81. Mr Thompson also confirmed the injury toll had risen from 40 to 48.

Children’s Wisconsin, a paediatric hospital in Milwaukee, confirmed it treated 18 minor victims, ranging in age from three to 16 years old. Six of the child victims required surgery and 10 remained in the intensive care unit as of midday Monday.

While the attack is not linked with terror or the Rittenhouse trial (which coincidentally is in the same state and just wrapped up) some in the republican party (not surprisingly made this into a political issue).

Marjorie Taylor Greene says that the blame for the Waukesha killings lies with the mainstream media, Democrats, and Joe Biden, bizarrely claiming they incited the murder of five people Sunday night’s parade in the town.

The Georgia representative tweeted: “After the widespread hateful reaction to the Rittenhouse verdict & dog whistle calls to radical BLM ground troops by the mainstream media, Democrats, and even the President of the United States, we must ask if they incited the mass murder in Waukesha, WI.”

I honestly don't think she would know what a fact was even if it flew directly into her face. She's QAnon, and ended up running unopposed.

She will not run unopposed again.

I've actually seen men being referred to as being "a beautiful human being"----without any objection from any man.

I've also heard women refer to men as being "gorgeous," "hot," "cute," things like that. I've no objection to that. I, myself, have been told that I have "pretty eyes."

It's not as common these days----but as I was growing up, certain women were referred to as being "handsome," with no insult meant.

Welcome to the world of partisan politics. Nothing is out of bounds, the opposition must me demonized and slammed in any way possible.

It may have escaped you but Marjorie is the one making this tragedy into a political issue

So are you. And you're utlizing all the disgusting tactics to demonize someone that has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

In other words, you're part of the problem not the solution.

Law enforcement officials on Monday identified 39-year-old Darrell Brooks as the man suspected of being the driver who killed five and injured more than 40 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, on Sunday. Brooks faces five counts of first-degree intentional homicide, and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday that he had been charged with recklessly endangering the safety of others three times in the past two years—including a domestic abuse case on November 5. The Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office admitted Monday that Brooks’ $1,000 bail in the most recent instance was “inappropriately low.”
