That's very sad news. I cried into my hanky twice today over this.

I'm more frightened than upset. The Queen has been there all my life, through every crisis, like our mum, never changing. Now she's gone, what's going to happen to Britain? It's all chaos now, it'll get worse. :?

I can and I will get through this without an energy drink. Feel those beautiful German emotions, Schultzie. Don't drown them in caffeine.

It will be interesting to watch the funeral ceremonies, and to watch the coronation. The last one took place 70 years ago in 1952. QEII is the longest reigning monarch of England. Second lonest in the world. King King Louis XIV of France reigned for 72 years (he became king at the age of 5).

No doubt the Brits do ceremony better then anybody.

That's what I'm looking forward to. With all respects to the late Queen.

Serious question. King Charles was resented in many quarters for the way he treated Diana. But now she has been dead for a quarter century. Has the resentment eased? Has Charles’s “cold” image softened over the years?

I think it's eased because he is a good dad to the beloved William and Harry. And it seems they like Camilla. People seem to have relented.

I have a soft spot for Charles because he gardens. He seems like a quiet man.
I don’t envy him, who would want to be King.
I think he would prefer to be in the garden.
I will always remember the Queen with her corgis.

So will the Royal Family as an institution ...continue its slow unraveling? Or speed up its unraveling after this? Or will it find some steady new equilibrium by reinventing itself under Charles?

I am neither pro or anti royal, but today feels like a significant shift, even a blow, to the national identity, and for that I am a little sad.

I feel slightly emotional about it, and I never for a moment thought I would.

Our national structures and standing in the world have been severely shaken in recent years and this feels like another sizable knock.

I wonder if they'll do a post-mortem Covid test. The UK government doesn't have a great track record regarding the spread of Covid. How long before Liz Truss gets the blame?
