I am a working American. I do not care about any "Wealth Inequality" - real or imagined - because everything I own, I earned, and no loud-mouthed, under-educated, unwashed, commie-pinko slackers are going to make me feel guilty for it, no matter how hard they try.
Maybe it's because I was homeless, and worked my way up and off of the streets without any hand-out or hand-up by any member of the "Occupy Movement". Maybe it's because I am also a military veteran who know what real work is all about. Maybe it's because I put myself through college without any financial assistance and earned my MSEE degree.
And maybe I'm just tired of losers whining about how they think it's "unfair" that someone else has more wealth than they do.
Maybe I am sick of a system that seems hellbent on making sure I can't survive, I mean not only do I not support the current system but even if I did I don't have the skills nessisary to function in it. So either way I'm screwed, but I'm just a loser so it really dosen't matter.

For quite some time, that's what happens when society rejects you........though now its more clear to me that its society with the problem not me.

I agree with Marshall and Sweetleaf. It has nothing to do with your personal status, how hard you've worked or what you've already earned. What happens when you get laid off? What happens when your degrees are useless in the current job market? What happens when you end up in debt because of a bad world economy? America is already in huge unnecessary debt. Where's the democracy in that? Do you ppl even give a dam where your tax dollars go? We want the world's finances to be regulated properly so that there is a stronger middle class. That way our countries won't turn into third world countries. You have so much to lose, and you can't even see it.

Angel_Ryan, I do not think more regulations will help. Here is the thing. In order for laws to truly be effective most people would want to do right. It doesn't matter what regulations or laws are passed they will just go around the law. This applies to corporations as well. We can't just depend upon the law. We live in a society which is immoral and dishonesties are abound. We live in a society in which a good amount of the population does not care. I believe we live in the days in which if you were on fire they would not even spit on you to put you out. It is not a political or economic problem. It is a spiritual problem.
Sweetleaf, you are fighting against people who own all of the cards, have all the keys, and guard all of the doors. Yes, they have been immoral and have been immoral against some of us. Yes, they are s**ts and greedy? Here is the added caveat. Have they truly violated any of our inalienable rights by our founding father's standards? Are they getting laws passed to prevent any person autistic or not from pursuing a college degree meaning is anyone barred by law from pursing a degree or education at all? Is anyone barred by law from pursing food anywhere? Are any of us being lynched? Do they have extermination camps just for certain groups of people? Does any law bar any of us to come on here and say our peace?
To both of you Sweetleaf and Angel_Ryan, Fnord, innuasha, Asp-z and others are conservative leaning folks. In their mind, they are asking should one be forced by government backed laws to provide for another? What if they are right though? I believe they are. They are like a lot of conservative leaning folks. They will not lift a finger to help you at all. In their mind, it is caveat emptor and every man for himself. They will not budge one inch from this. These are immoral folks. Looking at their arguments, I do believe they are correct. This is why I believe we need to change directions somehow. I believe we need to reject this competitive, every man for himself mindset. If we are able to make and build our own communities I say let's do so. Occupy las angeles was given a chance to do this. They should've taken the deal. Let's get the hell away from these guys. Sweetleaf, you're sick of society am I right? So am I? I'm sick of all the nonsense. I say if possible let's leave. There are other ways to opress the population then creating obvious laws that violate obvious rights, we are all dependent on a system that will ultimately screw most of us over. Maybe there are not extermination camps or plans for a genocide yet, but you know what they say about ignoring problems until its too late.

What is "correct" is value dependent. I don't think they can claim they are correct if their philosophy is what may eventually lead to global crisis. I don't believe the current economic situation we are facing is merely a hiccup.
I also don't think the issue with global corporatism is lack of personal moral values. That may be part of it, but there's much more to it. The system itself is set up such that corporations must compete or their share holders will abandon ship and leave the company in dire straights. If even one corporation decides to take advantage of cheap labor, all others have to follow suit or they will lose out. In essence, competition prohibits corporations from acting morally.
I think there is an analogy to a situation in game theory called the prisoners dilemma. Google it. Also google "Nash equilibruim". Basically what the Nash equilibrium principle says is that in a non-cooperative game, if there is a way for any single player to alter his strategy to his advantage while every other player's strategy stays the same the system is not in equilibrium. A situation where corporations aren't taking advantage of cheap labor is not in the Nash equilibrium because any single corporation can take advantage of the cheap labor and profit at the expense of the others. Any corporation that isn't taking advantage of cheap labor loses out to the competition because its product is now more expensive than the products produced by cheap labor. Therefore the Nash equilibrium is every company going for the cheapest labor possible. The problem is this competitive Nash equilibrium isn't necessarily the optimal economy. The problem of course is that cheap labor makes the consumer less able to afford things and this hurts the entire economy, driving everything down. In order to reset the Nash equilibrium to something more optimal you have to change the rules of the game. This is why regulation is necessary.

I've noticed this myself. I never knew what the terminologies were called. What I am saying is I do not think regulations alone are not enough. You have to consider the consumers as well. You would have to change the consumer's mindset as well. Consumers want things fast and cheap. If you really look at the whole thing it is cyclitic. The consumers and those in the corporations would have to decide to change from the inside out and decide to do the right thing otherwise everyone will just go around the regulations if they do not want to follow them. A regulation is only as good as it is enforcable. I do not believe we will change most people and change their minds.
Honestly, I hate this system with a passion. I do not believe we can do anything at least right now to change it. I believe the best thing to do is for a group of people who are fed up is to start completely over somewhere else and make it to where the system has little to no influence preferbly no influence. This new mini-society needs to be self-sufficient. This new mini-system that is created would have to be more of a coorperative system and non-competitive. In this new system instead of competing against each other each person in this mini-system needs to do things that help uplift others in this new mini-society. This means the job and corporations as we know it may not exist in this new system. It could be similar to the old mom and pop store days.
If we went by the founding father's beliefs I'm sorry to say but they are correct by the letter of what the founding father's say. I do not believe our inalienable rights our being violated and therein lies the problem. It is immoral but it is not unjust. I believe this is the situation we are in. I do believe Fnord and the rest of them are correct which is why I've come to my conclusions.

No, I'm suggesting that they (and remember most of these people are white privileged kids) shouldn't waste their free time messing up other peoples' jobs and instead either sit their fat asses in front of X Factor repeats or Call of Duty or maybe even do something f**king constructive for once.

As I stated earlier in this thread, a quick google search will lead you to studies showing that the majority of people participating in Occupy are employed, so this is not a valid argument against the movement. Also, for those who aren't employed, how dare people be angry that they've applied to hundreds of jobs (literally, hundreds - I have family firsthand that has experienced this) and not been given a single one because of this economy? When a Trader Joe's opened up by my apartment, over 1,000 people applied on the first DAY. For a minimum wage job. Most of the people unemployed are desperate for a job and would gladly take one!

So first you claim it's all just unemployed people (and thus, presumably, poor), now all of a sudden it's all wealthy people? Which is it?
Sweetleaf, I'm loving your posts in here
I've been to many different Occupy locations (from Occupy Wall Street to Occupy Oakland) and I'm proud to be part of this movement. So much disinformation against the protests being said in this thread. I've spent hours at different locations talking to people (from all walks of life) firsthand, hearing their stories, and it disheartens me to see so many people believing and perpetuating falsities about the movement itself and the kind of people involved. I absolutely don't think the movement is perfect, by any means - no movement is. I don't agree with every single Occupy-related facet. But some change needs to happen in this country and a lot of great ideas are coming out with it.
