Technology ain't the only thing human behavior lags behind. Human behavior lags behind in everything!

I think part of god's plan [he saw this all coming a billion years ago] is to let humanity and creation just grind down to a smoking nub, then start over from scratch with better plans.

he MADE the damned video in the first place! in this day and age he was at least a clueless boob if he did not know it would eventually end up online. just the mere fact that he made the video and that the daughter knew he made the video, was destructive enough. the daughter had to know this, too. also the police, as flatfooted as they tend to be, are not gonna publically pile onto the father by saying "oh, it was all his fault."

I have to wonder if the father is feeling any guilt.

in my experience his type usually professes to feel no guilt whatsoever, only anger that their kid didn't do what he wanted.

If you make a video it doesn't mean that it will automatically end up online. I made videos sometimes but they don't end up online if I don't upload them.

According to their findings so far, the video was leaked by a third party who thought they were being of help, Cool said.

"It was, 'I'm going to record this, it's yours, that way you'll think twice before you do this again,’" Cool said of the father's alleged reasoning to his daughter for filming her punishment.

The things you say about the police are biased assumptions.
With this I don't mean that the father has no fault or responsability, I am clarifying that for now it seems that he did not publish the video.
Btw we don't know the guy, we don't know what kind of person he is. People are assuming a lot.

it is a common sense observation about the police and human nature in general. after all, a lot of them are fathers also. anyways, the daughter could not have known that the father would not publicize this, only she knew what all the relational dynamics were between her father whom she apparently did not trust, and herself.

How do you know that she didn't know that? This makes no sense (the thing about police too. They are fathers so they will help a father get away with bulling his little daughter? What?), let me quote it again:

I wonder what was the thing that pissed him off so much though.

i am betting she likely heard, "(this punishment) is yours." she is not going to have seen the full picture in the midst of such punishment, she only knows her father is picking on her. if she had trusted her father this likely would not have happened, her behavior [which seemed to involve her keeping her social behavior secret from her father] and the father's clumsy attempt at discipline. it seems apparent to me, at least. other observers' mileage may vary, obviously. and the bulk of fathers with half a brain know somewhere in their heads that they have feet of clay and can seriously screw up at any time, as well.

You are betting and assuming, and saying that it must have happened as you say even if there is no evidence. This makes it pointless to discuss any further, it would only make me angry. People like to be jury, judge and executioner.

Before passing judgement on the father it might be useful to know what transgression his daughter did?

I generally agree that he should have been a little more tactful instead of humiliating his child in front of the world.

IMHO chopping her hair off as he did is physical abuse as well as mental abuse. that was a horrible haircut in multiple senses.

Children and adolescents perceive reality much differently and more simply black and white than most adults. Slights and wrongs are taken much more to heart, and become the center of their universes. In that way, we Aspies, I think, are more able to sympathize with kids, as I think we perceive reality very much the same way.

many adults can't seem to remember when they were kids and how intensely they took things as kids.

In the video Dad says it was for "getting f****d up".

On booze? On some kind of drugs? We can't tell.

But she was apparently a repeat offender whatever it was because he says "havent I warned you many times before?".
