I bet it's not a grocery store either...

Wanna bet it's a Black owned business?

Also, FWIW, here in what is almost the exact center of South Carolina, it's cloudy, overcast, and breezy, and it's been like that since this morning, so for the most part yes, the outer bands have arrived here. -- This is a gigantic storm.

More looting, one dirt bag barricaded his self into sporting goods store.

Quote:
ORLANDO — A SWAT operation was reportedly underway in Orange County Sunday as looters were attempting to steal guns from a sporting goods store.

According to local media, the standoff was ongoing at the ‘Academy Sports’ store as Hurricane Irma moved through the area. The scene is at 3557 Gardens Ridge Way—-near the Mall at Millenia.

One suspect has surrendered and another was barricaded inside and believed to be armed with stolen guns from the store.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Hurricane Irma thieves strike homes, businesses during storm, police say
Quote:
Nine people were arrested Sunday afternoon and accused of looting on West Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale. Television news footage showed people clambering in and out of a jagged hole in a shattered window, snatching sneakers and clothing from Simon’s Sportswear. A block away, they pilfered what they could from CashAmerica Pawn, police said.

I left my high rise and into a brick house with my grandma... It's picking up, I can hear s**t slamming into the house. Still have power though (power is flickering). Something just hit my new car, the alarm is going off... Well a few car alarms are going off.

I am still standing by my earlier post...

I can hear the transformers popping. Plenty of s**t still hitting the house, some flooding.

Still not the worse storm I been in. Thanks to Cuba taking a direct hit before coming to Florida.

If it's the type of crane I'm thinking of (there a few types) they should have lowered the boom and secured it...

These are the cranes that stand at the top of high-rise construction projects and there was not enough time to take them down...and especially without closing streets needed all around them for evacuation. The booms are free to swing in the wind like weather vanes, and they are supposed to be able to stand hurricane-force winds.

Correct, except, they are not designed to withstand hurricane force winds. Very few things are designed to withstand hurricane force winds.

I could certainly be wrong there, and maybe the reporter I had heard say they were designed to withstand 135mph winds had been misinformed. In any case, there was not possibly enough time to take them all down even if they had closed the streets. That same reporter said it would have taken two weeks to do that, and I assume he was talking about a single crane.

Kudos to all of them for leaving that aside. I spent the entire day watching CNN's coverage, and the emphasis throughout was only upon safety. If I heard correctly, FEMA (or possibly the National Hurricane Center) had asked them to make everyone aware that the storm surge following the winds were the most dangerous, and that is what they did.

Have a few trees pulled out the ground by their roots, few shingles blown off the roof. Still without power, had a few looters a few blocks down.

*Being without power for weeks and potential looters are the worse part after the storm... Low life's aways trying to steal from someone who's worked hard for their s**t, really terrible people will take it from someone when their down.
