I had prematurely submitulated...

Abe wasn't perfect. He was a politician. But he was a very wise man.

If he had been alive, I don't believe there would have been things like the Ku Klux Klan.

Maybe, maybe not. But we'll never know and that's why I say he's a marytr. He helped the Union win the American Civil War and abolish slavery, but in my honest opinion he failed in bringing the country together and repairing the tensions between the north and south after the war. But I guess it's not really his fault since he was assassinated.

Sometimes I wonder if he was intentionally allowed to be killed by the US government and they let John Wilkes Booth take all the blame for it. But that's conspiracy theory talk.

Also the thing that bothers me about Lincoln is the fact that he played a huge role in THE bloodiest war in American history. Many thousands of American soldiers on both sides died violent deaths because he refused to allow the south the succeed, and he's treated like some sort of saint for it.

Politicians always get us involved in these bloodthirsty wars forcing common people like us to slaughter each other. They reap all the rewards of war and the only thing we get out of killing each other and risking our lives is a false sense of honor and a slim chance of returning home to our loved ones with some PTSD and maybe a missing limb or two.

Another thing that bothers me about the American Civil War was how hundreds of men were executed for desertion both in the Union and the Confederacy. I'm sure many of them deserted the war not because they were "cowards" or "traitors" but because they simply did not want to kill their fellow countrymen. People in the northern states had family members living in the south and vice versa. Yet these men who truly did love their country and didn't want to be forced into a war that was tearing it apart were punished for it and branded as cowards and traitors to the North/South.

The whole war was BS and every time I had to learn about it in history class and watch movies about it, it made me want to cringe.

If you were a president of a country, would you allow some part of the country to just separate themselves? Be honest.

Of course, he didn't want to "let them secede."

The South objected to the North telling them what to do. Part of that was slavery-related.

Lincoln was a pragmatist. He was a Free-Soiler----but not a full-blown Abolitionist. It took a great deal of courage to be an Abolitionist before the Civil War. You were thought of as being a fanatic if you were an Abolitionist.

I would never be president because I'm not a power-hungry megalomaniac.

Neither would I.

I bet if we didn't have leaders telling us we had to kill each other there might actually be less wars. That's why I consider myself a supporter of anarchy.

What about laws though?

Just like I think some people need the fear of Hell not to commit atrocities, I think some need the fear of jail not to do nasty things.

True, but in a corrupt society where the law enforcers don't actually have the best interest of the people I think it's sometimes better for us to protect ourselves and our own families and communities.

Sometimes the system prevents us from having the basic human right of guarding ourselves.

I think that, for the most part, laws are for our benefit. They’ve protected me to some extent. I think some situations I’ve been in could’ve been worse without laws.

Sociopaths often choose not to commit the worst crimes because they don’t want to go to jail.

If we lived in a place like North Korea with extreme/absurd laws, I’d probably be more apt to agree with you on this topic.

Yeah, you do have a point. Maybe I worry that we will one day become as bad as North Korea or China? Especially since Trump made that comment about wanting to become "president for life". Like Xi Jingping?

I might just be extremly paranoid though.

We do have checks and balances in place to prevent that from happening unlike other countries who had an extremely unstable government to begin with.

Laws have protected me a bunch. The cops have gotten my stalker/harasser to cool his jets else someone would have cooled them in a most unpleasant manner.

Of course America has flagrant human rights violations on the books still as Law...but they can come down too. No need for anarchy.
