You have many different people saying many different things. There are different types of mask. In general, when you see people wearing mask in Asia, they are surgical mask or construction worker type mask. These types do not protect you from the virus. But N95, N100's, and several others will. I and others have been saying this for at least a month now (beginning 26 January, page 5 this thread).
Actually to medical people N95 and N100 are called respirators and the masks on the risk assessment table are surgical masks.
My family is mostly medical personal nurses and physicians assistance ect and that is what the tell me.
