On a brass plaque attached to the Statue of Liberty:

The New Colossus

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Where does it say which countries' refugees are allowed in and which ones are not?

Any ideas on how to pay for all of those "tired, poor and huddled masses"? I'm all ears.

Wait, I know. You're a chemist, we should probably tax you more.

The principles written on the Statue of Liberty guided our forefathers in forming this country the way it is. What made the USA special is that we became the "Melting Pot" of the world. It is that particular part that made us a world power. However, I see that certain people no longer believe that works that way anymore. Funny, it was these emigrants that made the country richer, not poorer.

Go ahead on taxing chemists more, I will leave this country if it actually happens and I will not be alone in doing so. I have connections that I can use to go somewhere else where science is still held with regard. There are plenty of countries that respect scientists more than this one. Scientists are already being attacked by the current administration here when it comes to funding and environmental issues, so it should be no surprise when we leave in mass.

A brief history lesson:

Eighty years ago, a certain government (Nazi Germany) started attacking members of the scientific community if they did not follow their agenda to the letter. Many of the brightest scientists left, emigrating to different countries, never to return. That country's real scientific progress fell by the wayside while it became consumed with war. The other countries (including the USA) greatly benefited from the influx of good scientific minds, which lead to the creation of nuclear power. In the end, it did not go so well for Germany. Sound familiar?

History repeats itself to those who do not learn from it.

A new twist on the issue at hand: (warning: foul language)

http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/vicen ... le/2645701

Former Mexican President Vicente Fox had some harsh words for President Trump after he reportedly referred to Haiti, El Salvador, and African nations as “s**thole countries” during a meeting with lawmakers.

“.@realDonaldTrump, your mouth is the foulest s**thole in the world,” Fox tweeted in response on Thursday. “With what authority do you proclaim who’s welcome in America and who’s not. America’s greatness is built on diversity, or have you forgotten your immigrant background, Donald?”

African Union countries expressed outrage and demanded an apology on Friday after U.S. President Donald Trump reportedly called African nations "s**thole" countries, the African Union Mission in Washington said in a statement.

"The African Union Mission condemns the comments in the strongest terms and demands a retraction of the comment as well as an apology to not only to the Africans but to all people of African descent around the globe," it said.

He's being castigated daily out of sore loser syndrome compounded by extreme butthurt.
I find it nothing short of delightful to see them writhe in pain over him and to know that it will last another three to seven YEARS.

Everyone calls them "s**tholes" .. that's what's meant by "Third world countries".

I had previously stated I was not going to post further on this thread, yet I'll simply say, Racism & Bigotry can be found all across the world as, you don't have to look at North America to see it.Many countries around the world have their own set of bigots as a way of wording such.

Calling their countries "$hitholes" is one thing, saying that you don't want immigrants from those countries is quite another.

Yeah its so cool to have a president who constantly alienates american citizens, insults them and the people of the world and is generally nasty and unpleasant and can't quit whining on twitter.

Some people need better priorities, I'd like to see Trump lose next time around as I think it would be best for this country, not so I can see people on the right 'writhe in pain' about it...sure I wouldn't be upset if the alt-righters and white supremacists are upset by his loss but that is not why I want him out of office.

True I have used the term myself, but I certainly have not gone around suggesting...instead of having immigrants from those countries we should have immigrants from Norway/Europe.

I totally agree 100%.

If you want to make a discussion about the racial oppression that exists in Sudan or Japan, go right ahead ... but this thread is about Trumpster Dumpster.

His winning or losing the next election will mostly depend on how well the voters are doing financially. He'll be a known commodity by then and people won't want to risk possible change for the worse if they are doing okay.

And if we deplorable Trump voters do lose we won't be rioting and pillaging in the streets and needing safe places.

The problem is, the President needs to speak literally. He needs to say what he means, with no exaggerated language only understood by his initiates. I can't imagine Lincoln, Roosevelt, Reagan, or Obama using hyperbolic language from the White House. So, no, we liberals aren't the ones who are mentally deficient.
