The NRA is clever, but you just became more clever by watching this.

There was at least a thread devoted to that practice here a few years ago. They’re defending their freedom to pollute as much as they want with their own cars and trucks and their own fuel, all of which they’ve bought with their own money. As long as the atmosphere remains unowned, you’ll have a hard time getting many people to respect it—what belongs to everyone, belongs to noöne.



It doesn’t really matter if it meets any particular definition of conspiracy. It is an affront to liberty, so of course it’s going to be opposed.



Democracy is two environmentalists and a coal roller voting on whether people are allowed to pollute. Liberty is a well-armed coal roller contesting the vote.

Something is not morally right just because it is legal.

Slave owners used similar arguments during the Civil War era. "I bought these slaves with my own money! If the government can take our slaves, they can just as easily take the rest of our property!"

Is this supposed to be an argument against environmental protection?

Your analogy is actually a very good one. Most people do respect the environment. The whole "eco-fascism" canard is garbage because democratic societies tend to have very strong environmental regulations. Look at northern Europe.

Most of the Americans who truly don't care about the environment are wealthy CEOs. Most working class Americans don't do much for the environment because being green is so hard. It's not easy to make eco-friendly choices when you are struggling to survive in a cutthroat capitalist system that has been further poisoned by corporate welfare, a bloated military, and a lazy manchild president.

When your entire life is just about survival, this can erode your sense of good and evil. That's the worst thing about capitalism. The capitalists create an environment in which people have to be selfish just to survive, and then they argue that this selfishness is natural. The brutality that we see in America isn't natural because people have to suppress their inner compassion just to get by.



So ... you think that "liberty" is a good thing ... even though most people would never vote for your version of liberty.

Well ... the Soviet Union also tried to "force people to be free".

If your version of a perfect world can only be created by disenfranchising people, you don't speak for liberty.
