Trump orders FBI to target blacks and environmentalists
I think it's not a fair comparison to contrast one person's cultural/historic obstacles with another person. The African Americans are also very resilient to have survived being slaves and treated as animals/property for 400 years.
As beneficii has indicated they have been forced to coalesce as a group for self-support because they have literally received no support from the American government when white folks have destroyed any little thing they built. I posted images from 1975 showing white American men, women and children throwing rocks and bricks at black people who trespassed onto a beach, incredulous that within our lifetime a black man was forbidden to move into a so called "white spaces"....still happens today when a black person accidentally drives or walks into a gated community (ever heard of Trayvon Martin). In schools and residential areas segregation has grown again as "white flight" occurs where white folk leave in droves taking with them money and resources so there's nothing left to invest into the areas.
As you have indicated you are a Trump supporter I thought it's important to at least have some empathy or the plight of people who are your fellow Americans. It's easy for Donald Trump to perpetuate this ethnic separatism because he is a billionaire who has enjoyed the apex of white privilege and there is no fall out for him. For normal Americans it's been a distraction from the job of nation building. I think it was Lincoln who warned of the repurcussions of a "house divided"
Sorry, but my ancestors' experience with oppression and slavery is just as relevant as the African experience. Blacks don't have the market cornered on the worst experience of slavery, ever. Take the Greeks out of it, what about the Jews? Enslaved, all their possession (money, homes, businesses, heirlooms confiscated) 6 million murdered, country-less (again) until the 1940's and you can't keep those people down. They went from nothing (again) to prosperity, they in fact DO have the market cornered on the slavery/murder experience. But, they keep their heads down and keep prospering! And you don't hear them constantly moaning about the injustices of life and the world. How often do you see a Jewish person on public assistance, how often do you see a Jew in a substance abuse clinic? Very seldom, why? Because they refuse to give up, they refuse to be beaten, they have a hard work ethic and a drive for success. And they don't pay attention to the negative things people say... Blacks would do well to watch the Jews...
So, I respectfully disagree. It does do well to compare different experiences of humans with slavery.

I'll quote him as much as I feel the need to, thank you very much.
Also, that last sentence you mentioned I think really shows the cynicism that many conservatives have about politics. I'm a bit more optimistic than you, and I think Bernie Sanders is really fighting for us. He has shown a real willingness to put himself on the line, like when he fought for civil rights in 1963 and was arrested for it:

It was a figure of speech because I knew someone would cite Bernie, who will remain rich while he robs everyone else. You can cite Bozo the clown, for all I care. Bernie's solutions have nothing to do with personal integrity, and everything to do with stealing from one to give to another.
Taxation is something owed to the nation. It's not stealing. If the nation decides to implement a tax, then that's it.
And how you can call Bernie a clown while you support Donald Trump. OMG.
A normal tax, absolutely. I'm right there with you. An exorbitant tax for the purposes of supporting others? No. The filthy rich will get around this, they do it now. But at least Donald Trump doesn't pretend he isn't filthy rich and plan on being even more rich. Bernie is also filthy rich, he'll stay that way too. The middle class will bear all the burdens of socialism. They always do, because the filthy rich are not as numerous as you believe. And they have long ago made arrangements to transfer the bulk of their wealth out of the reach of their governments.

your "plans" are totally unrealistic. not all of us are constitutionally equipped to "bust their ass" in any way shape or form. horatio alger is FICTION.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to ask you if you can at least read? I said to you specifically, about one page back that I was not referring to disabled people. I'm referring to people whose only claim to fame is their race, or socio-economic status. Color is not a disability, poor is not a disability. Nothing about those two things prevents effort on one's own behalf. So, for the second and final time, I am NOT referring to the disabled.
you are not "getting" what i have been saying, namely that merely to be able to "work hard" one has to have above average energy. to be able to "work smart" one HAS to be smart in the first place. not referring to disability here. i am referring to above average energy and intelligence levels. willpower alone is worthless. in terms of limited supplies of energy, why do you think there are so many people addicted to stimulants? because their natural energy was too limited for them to accomplish anything that would get them ahead in life.
I honestly can't believe I'm reading this. Low energy? Where I come from, low energy is referred to as lack of motivation, in short 'lazy.' I got real motivated when I got my butt whipped. Please tell me the page in the DSM where 'low energy' can be found? Hunger is also a good motivator... If a person is depressed, that's one thing. There's treatment for depression that should be available to all, when it becomes apparent that the person is going to use 'low energy' as an excuse to not accomplish a basic living for themselves.
* disabled
* elderly
* profoundly mentally ill, those made homeless by profound mental illness
* children of 'low energy' parents until they reach the age of 18
* veterans of foreign wars/disabled veterans
* temporary assistance for families that have fallen on hard times
Those are all the programs that I think a civil society has an obligation to provide. As for 'low energy,' I honestly don't know what to say about that. It's probably one of the most enabling and codependent statements I've ever read. Sad thing is, they will be the first people to want socialized medicine. So, a 'low energy,' ward of the state wants to live forever. Oh boy...
I get the feeling that a lot of people on disability income have no idea what it is like to be really disabled.

that is an ableist philosophy of yours. we will never agree on anything under the sun other than the fact that we two should avoid one another henceforth.
Red state voter suppression made possible by a conservative Supreme Court is happening here and now in modern times. The fact that the likes of Newt Gingrich and Steve King can find the courage to crawl out from under their rocks to spout racism, while white nationalists commit acts of terror and murder, all the while ignored by the GOP establishment in favor of attacking Antifa and Black Lives Matter as Anti-American terrorists is happening in the here and now.
There's blue state voter suppression too. In Palm Beach county the leader got in big trouble when it was found out the county was trying to cheat the current governor of Florida. Palm Beach county has been at it for years, and they are a liberal hot bed. Are there modern day racists? Absolutely. Do you know what the average, run of the mill conservative thinks about them? We think they should be locked up when they go off the deep end. Like it or not, most conservatives are not very exciting. We fall face first into our beds at the end of every day, with no KKK rallies to our credit. We don't think about skins, or skin colors.
You WANT race to be an issue, because with out the Russian collusion narrative to hang Trump on, you got nothing. The Washington Post ( I believe it was ) had an audio leaked recently about just that.

Stop quoting me then... Ableism has gotten me farther than 'low energy.'

I'm sure you're right, Ezra. I was married to one for 11 years. He wanted a check and to stay home. He rides a motorcycle, mows the lawn, etc... No doubt watching him work his scams has given me a resentment. He was a 'low energy' individual. Meanwhile, I busted my ass. I was probably crazy as a March hare, but I got vested for retirement before I finally buckled under. I still feel able, I just need to find a job where I can manage my stimuli better.
You are a constant voice of reason on this site, I'm glad you are here.

There are certainly people who take advantage of the “system,” and who have been doing so for multiple generations.
There are others, though, who are truly disabled and are at a severe disadvantage in a working environment.
Right now, there much underemployment, even though there’s little unemployment.
We’re going through a transition period as far as skills is concerned. Many jobs are being rendered obsolete by technological advances.
I am at a disadvantage because I’m a little behind in “new” technological skills. So are many people in their 50s or above.
What the (US and other) government should do is provide training in the new technology for unemployed and underemployed people.
Especially in urban areas, one cannot survive by working in retail or fast food or whatever.

I'm not talking about real socialism, FYI. Only what conservatives like to call socialism, which is basically any government program they don't like.

I think the fear of people "taking advantage" of the system is far overblown, and people of other developed countries would agree with me. It's something that's uniquely American, at least in the developed world. I'm guessing it's related to the implicit Calvinism and Protestant work ethic that are dominant in this country. This I think is why they constantly mention how Europe and countries must be falling apart or their health systems must be a disaster, and why they will cherry-pick only evidence that supports their view. They can't imagine any other kind of world.
I remember watching a video that mentioned the reason why we still have citizenship-based taxation in the US, is because Americans are afraid that Americans who move abroad are (paraphrasing) going to get away with whatever it is Americans are afraid they're going to get away with. I thought this encapsulated the paranoid mindset well that you see in, for example, Persephone here.

Hey, at least he makes an effort. If a person sets the alarm and makes an 'effort' on their own behalf, I like them. They can sample pies, in a pie factory for all I care. Work, even the most mundane, is work and they have my respect.
It's the ones who pull the covers over their heads and suck their thumbs, while in the fetal position that make me wonder. You got a problem, get a diagnosis. You get a diagnosis, I got no issue. Except in cases where people have been pushing for some form of disability diagnosis to avoid life, while others would give anything to embrace life.

That 'anecdote' accounts for the "paranoia" I suffer from. I lived it. If ever there was a human 'dud,' it was my ex. But, my kids watched me struggle and work anyway. They both have strong work ethics.
