I saw a documentary where this convicts said he could kill someone with a rolled up newspaper. The size of him, I believed.

Hell, I could kill with a rolled up newspaper, it's an old trick, though IMHO a magazine works better. The trick is to roll it up really tightly, starting from the bound edge. When it's rolled that tightly, it forms a very rigid cylinder, which is suitable for striking soft targets with a jabbing motion, as well as being capable of deflecting or blocking a knife attack. In order to kill with it, you'd thrust it hard into the base of someone's throat, crushing the larynx and or trachea. The eyes might also be an effective target, but you'd need a thinner magazine to really do some damage.
